Ensure the difference of the sum of Backsights and the sum of foresight are equal to the difference of the sum of the Rises & Falls (a check on intersights) and also the Difference between the first and last reduced level (a check on Back & Fore sights).

3. Levelling
3.1 Fix a point on site to which levels can be related (Site Datum). Choose a convenient height, usually Ground Floor Level on a fixed point, preferably an ordnance bench mark (O.B.M) or a manhole cover.
3.2 Transfer levels using a series of levels (flying levels).
