@wight1984 "boycotting AI" by not using ChatGPT is like saying "let's boycott roads cause I hate cars".
Of course you can choose better ways to use the roads that is more aligned with your virtues. But the roads have been built because of cars.
Please letโs not make it so that the most powerful technology ever made can only ever be used by the aspiring universe dictators developing it. That is not a good way to get a strategic advantage over said aspiring universe dictators.
@skelly_tun@hankgreen Unfortunately no it doesn't help! That didn't stop trillions of dollars from being invested into AI, and it's not stopping billions of people from using it.
I think it's much more productive to accept AI has become an important part of our society and we need to deal with it.
The Pandora box is open, you cannot put AI back on it and just pretend humanity does not know how to create super intelligent machines ๐
By denying its existence you're just putting yourself into trouble while the worst humans on earth have access to real life superpowers
*DISCLAIMER* I hate the way in which the AI Industry is being led with absolutely no safeguards, moving full speed into an extremely dangerous future
...
BUT I would really love to understand how these people who are against ANY type of AI usage see a world where no AI exists??
YouTuber Hank Green has paused uploading on multiple channels after admitting he relies "too heavily" on AI
"I need to come to terms with the fact that the level of dopamine I've been getting from interacting with LLMs ... is not healthy for me or good for the world"
@hankgreen Like we can replace coal with wind to get energy... Can we replace ones-and-zeros with something-else to get "executable machine commands"? ๐ฅธ Quantum computing??
@hankgreen I guess one could argue that delegating the writing of code to AI is some sort of replacement. Similar to how we used to do binary, then assembly, low-level programming languages, etc... we're just always moving up one level of abstraction.
But can it be entirely replaced?
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

Available in seat-based Enterprise plans only until June 23rd, after that only through usage credits, or when sufficient capacity allows....
They must be losing soooo much money with Enterprise plans... Is it the start of them deprecating it and making everyone go pay per token?
Introducing Claude Fable 5: a Mythos-class model that weโve made safe for general use.
Its capabilities exceed those of any model weโve ever made generally available.
Eh, it's prob just part of the algorithm game, extremes povs get way more engagement, the majority of folks with a more nuanced perspective just look from outside... But I would love to find some other people on the nuanced side to follow ๐ I gotta train my new account algorithm
I've always been curious about AI, and I definitely see the big potential it has to bring good stuff to the world... At the same time, the past few years of growth absolutely terrify me, and I totally understand the backslash as well.
I find this dichotomy very hard to deal with
I know it's not a hot take though. I am a developer and most people I work with have a similar point of view. I do see some people online sharing similar perspectives (@hankgreen for example). But it does seem rarer than the AI is evil vs. god extremes...
