So… Millions of years ago there was a race of people called the Alterans. They lived in another Galaxy. These people lived in peace until a time where their beliefs diverged. The Ori fought the Alterans and the Alterans fled Celestis on their Colony ship and headed to the Milky Way and landed on Dakara.

On Dakara and in the milky wall for thousands of years. The Ancients / Alterans made great discoveries. One was called “Stargates” these gates could create artificial wormholes and you could travel all across the galaxy.

The Alterans (Ancients) built a ship called Destiny which was to travel in search of a signal burried at the centre of the universe. Seed ships (which could build Stargates) went ahead of the main ship to scout and plot courses for Destiny. The ancients however didn’t pursue Destiny and they decided they should focus on ascension.

As time went on in the Milky Way. The Alterans established a network of Stargates all across the Galaxy. They and the 3 other advanced races formed an alliance. They protected the Galaxy.

These Alterans however over time all but a few got wiped out by a plague (possibly the Ori, will come back to those). It was at this point from Earth, one of the great city ships “Atlantis” fled Earth to the Pegasus Galaxy.

Here the Lanteans (Alterans / Ancients) had a huge empire. It spanned the Galaxy and with that they had peace. Sadly. Over time they created the Wraith. The wraith feed on humans and all but wiped out the Lanteans.

They fled to Earth and lowered the city into the ocean.

Once on earth, the Lanteans scattered and forged themselves into the Mythos of the Milky Way legends. Merlin notably was one of these figures. Now, the Ancients / ex Lanteans. Figured out how to ascend. They did this and went to a higher plane of existence.

Now. Skip a few thousands years to present day. The Ori return to the fold! The Ori discover a galaxy of humans who can worship them which makes them stronger. They’re basically evil ancients. The ancients however don’t interfere. Apart from they do.

So Merlin took human form. Made a weapon which can wipe out the Ori and long story short. SG1 helped and took out the Ori for good.

Now … the Ancients live happily ever after.
