some of y’all need to realize that fanfic writers do not owe you originality, writing quality on par with published works, etc. one of the core aspects of fanfic (imo) is self-indulgence. fanfic writers are allowed to write pretentiously, to reuse the same trope a thousand times,

idk i find ao3's boring, undynamic interface extremely relaxing. i love to go to a website without everything on the page moving and sparkling and trying to get me to engage with it. i barely go on insta anymore because the constant videos make me tired

my brother in christ ao3 sorts fics by date posted, or you can sort by kudos, hits, or comments if that's more your speed. I literally just camp out in certain tags and refresh every now and then to see what's been posted recently

[sugamint @shigahands]

I've seen ao3 comments saying "I'm late in reading the fic/sorry for the late comment" and I just wanna say it's never late!! You're always on time as long as the story exists, you don't have to read the fic and comment on it once it's posted! And as a writer I can confirm—

there are two wolves inside of you. one wants to consume content. one wants to create content. you end up scrolling through twitter because both wolves have adhd and so do you

[fran @galacticidiots]

Those of us who grew up reading on fanfiction dot net are made of sturdier stuff. Zero tags, the vaguest one-line summaries, no chance of knowing whether a story is complete, the Great Smut Purge of 2002, fics that haven’t been updated since 2006… nothing can hurt me now.

fanfic authors be like “I love this little guy beyond words,” then put them through unimaginable suffering

Don't write for an imaginary audience - write for yourself, your dick, and your six closest friends that will respond with a dozen fire emojis and an exploding gif
