So. The temple i grew up in is actually letting me talk about one of the things I can talk about for an extended period of time with little to no notice. 2/15/2023 , I'm giving a virtual talk about Jewish Romance... 1/2
Going through this right now w/ teen nibling and YA supernatural Romance. Why are there so many abusive vampire-human relationships?! Or questionable power dynamics?!😪
This thread is helpful - hoping to find some supernatural Romance reccs too;maybe even non-white leads!🙏🏾🤞🏾
My 15 year old niece told me she likes reading Tessa Bailey and I nearly fainted…
Y’all. Please send age appropriate romance suggestions. I’m going to preorder Thalia’s and Rebekah’s YA romances. I don’t care if there is sex in it, it needs to be age-respectful sex. LORDT!
RomanceGetsReal started as a bookclub focused on Romance with underrepresented characters and/or own voices authors- reading BIPOC, queer, and disabled authors and lead characters. Now,1+ years in, I'm wondering if "fat/plus size protagonists" should be added to the list...
i need an adult wlw romcom that isn’t a period/historical piece, has no weird age gap, has no cheating, isn’t about coming out, isn’t traumatic—and it’s just sapphics in love
So tired of saying “my girlfriend” and people rewording it as “your friend.” She ain’t a pal, and you damn well know it. If I call her my “scissoring siren” now, the pearl clutching will begin.
Great tips! Non-writers can also use these - especially #5. I realized I wasn't checking my coworkers on pronoun assumptions. I started using "they" in all communications and asking a person's pronouns during briefings on clients - even when a name "indicated" gender.
1/ Love that so many romance authors are speaking out against transphobic legislation. BUT if you’re an author who really cares about trans folks- now is a good time to take a look at your own work and make it a safer for trans ppl. Somethings to look for:
