🔴 Nearly everyone in Gaza currently has a desperate need for basic shelter assistance.
🔴 Two thirds of the population are living in deteriorating tents or temporary shelters only intended for short-term use.
🔴 Stocks of shelter materials and basic household assistance are nearly depleted.

The Shelter Cluster, led by NRC, has conducted the first comprehensive assessment of shelter conditions across Gaza. The findings are alarming.

Nearly 2 million Palestinians are living in desperate conditions and face flooding, excessive heat, rats, sewage, and an inability to access basic services. Yet, only 10% of families reported receiving shelter aid in the month before the assessment.

When the ceasefire was announced 10 months ago, Palestinians in Gaza thought that they would be moving home and into safer shelters, offering better protection.
Their hopes were crushed.

People remain in appalling conditions because Israeli restrictions are preventing even the most basic housing materials from entering Gaza.

Without a rapid procurement of and access for materials, the coming winter will be catastrophic:

- Israel must lift its restrictions and allow for predictable entry of shelter materials.

- Donors must pressure Israel to allow aid in.

- Funding levels must be increased, so that Palestinians families can get out of decaying temporary shelters and into something that provides more protection from the elements.
