I do the science thing. I also try to write sci-fi/draw, but really just end up looking at memes or playing video games. Post-doc at UIUC (PhD from Caltech).
@dgwilliams3d@Rob_Motto@draaiden@chrisderose I would defer this claim to people of satellite nations. They could give insight into whether or not the Soviet Union was properly Russian.
@dgwilliams3d@Rob_Motto@draaiden@chrisderose Alright, so is using the “scary Russian” argument really proper? Also, they were called the Soviet Union at the time. Learn basic facts.
@dgwilliams3d@Rob_Motto@draaiden@chrisderose How is killing civilians necessary to avoid greater losses? What assessment was even done to evaluate this? Just some recommendations by officers wanting to use the bomb without further consideration? The entire argument to use the bombs are so flawed.
@dgwilliams3d@draaiden@Rob_Motto@chrisderose You lack the perspective to realize the civilians involved is a literal war crime by today’s standards. The justification that “they did worse” does not mean it was ok to do what the US did.
@chrisderose Did it require the mass murder of civilians in a city? The innocent children killed in a war they never understood. At least soldiers knew what they were doing. The argument of “it would cost so many US soldiers’ lives” is mostly propaganda material.
@jeremyknauff@JimLaPorta But overall I would not want to see anyone in my family put the uniform on again. Our family did enough for this country. I’ve had countless friends come back from deployments a mess.
@jeremyknauff@JimLaPorta My older Marine brother (7 combat deployments) had the same sentiment with my younger siblings. We lost our youngest male sibling (airborne in the Army) last year. Carrying a casket with a US flag over it is probably the hardest thing anyone can do.
@spriyadarshin10@hapyresearchers So it’s ill-advised to say things like “if you believe in nature, then you believe in god.” Just the way I wouldn’t go up to you and say “if you believe in science, then you are agnostic.”
@spriyadarshin10@hapyresearchers Problem with this kind of thinking is you put words in people’s minds. It’s better left to let someone come to their own conclusions. Better to not make claims that “if you believe in nature, then you believe in a deity.”
@cosmicfibretion I had a tenured professor try to blow me up (for all the wrong reasons) as I tried to support three international young postdocs before. He put words in my mouth for 24 hours. I was just a grad student back then. Not sure what his agenda was.
