Ireland trusted its instincts and rejected the Lisbon Treaty until the people were bullied, lied to and shoved back into the polling booths a second time. People still don’t grasp how much sovereignty Lisbon handed away. The EU was already wobbling because other countries rejected treaties, and they needed unanimous approval, so they packed Lisbon with clauses to make sure the public would never get a real say again. The EU needs to be stripped back to a simple union of trade. Everything else belongs in the bin.
