@RealAlbanianPat If the Conservatives win, it will be the first time in 98 years, surely this must be a record in the time between election wins for a party?
@OwsWills@dj_halling Be real here, she has been in 3 different parties within 12 months. Especially for party list system where there are no personal mandates, this sort of behaviour is unacceptable. She needs to resign.
@Bravomessonly@WhatThewhat35@CollinRugg So you think a court could, or should, issue an injunction to compel her to have an abortion, if those are the "terms" of the contract?
@DanielLoftusSF @DonegalDunedain Bro this doesn't sound nearly as good as you think it is. An overwhelming victory is 20% of the vote with a 2 percent lead three years out to the next election? It's a pathetic showing for the main opposition party for the past 6 years.
@tribesbhoy@Dean_LFC11@Ireland_Votes@galwayad Fair enough, but in the context of the voting system for this by-election I don't think that's a rational choice. If you had no other option, you really wouldn't care who wins between FG and II? I would say one is a lot more right wing than the other!
@tribesbhoy@Dean_LFC11@Ireland_Votes@galwayad Of course you're not obliged to give every candidate a preference, but when push comes to shove and you have to make a call between FG and II (as the two candidates in the final count), would you rather abstain, or at the very least vote against the candidate you most dislike?
@TonyTemples@POLITICOEurope FG is almost certainly going to win a seat in Galway West, previously held by the leftist incumbent President. Why isn't the international media covering that?
@Ireland_Votes On the surface, this is a remarkable result for party in government for 15 years, but it reality it really speaks to the fact that all politics, especially in Ireland, is local. We vote more for personality than party, and Kyne just had better name recognition.
@CaptainPog1@LornaLong1960@DSanderson_85 But he doesn't have that working visa, he just applied for it. What if this application is rejected? This is an insane situation.
@STVNews His academic visa limits his working time to 20 hours per week, let alone the fact he doesn't even have permanent right to abode. This isn't a comment on the candidate, it's just an absurd situation. There are good reasons to question the suitability of the electoral law.
@ObserverScot@boswelltoday He doesn't have the right to work in excess of 20 hours per week per his academic visa arrangement, let alone the fact that he doesn't have permanent right to abode. How can he possibly represent his constituents in these circumstances?
@Gordon1000@ScotNational@AlMorrison14 In seats, perhaps. But in terms of the popular vote (both by constituency and region), there has been a sharp fall in support for pro-independence parties.
