Landmines of Death: How the Drug-Mafia Terrorist Arakan Army Targets Rohingya Civilians—and the RDF Fights Back

The use of internationally banned landmines across northern Arakan State has turned villages, farmlands, and forest corridors into silent killing fields. These explosives maim women, children, farmers, and even elephants that wander across mined routes.

The terrorist Arakan Army (AA), functioning as a violent drug-mafia network, has deployed landmines and improvised explosive devices to dominate territory and terrorize civilians. These brutal tactics have already claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent Rohingya men, women, and children.

In contrast stands the Rohingya Defence Force (RDF), the disciplined military wing of the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO). As reports of civilian injuries mount, the RDF has launched a dangerous but life-saving demining operation across several contaminated zones. Working without international assistance, RDF units map, identify, and neutralize Mines to protect refugees, villagers, and wildlife. Every mine cleared represents another child spared, another farmer able to walk freely again.

Under international law, deploying antipersonnel mines in civilian zones violates the Ottawa Convention and constitutes a war crime. The Arakan Army’s deliberate mining of Rohingya farmlands and pathways demands urgent investigation, accountability, and sanctions.

The world must act.
