🇳🇬 IMPORTANT: What Nigerians Need to Know About Digital Birth Registration

Nigeria is moving from paper-based birth registration to a digital Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (VitalReg) system. For Nigerians who still have older/manual birth certificates, NPC now provides a Certificate Reissuance process for eligible non-digital certificates.

Here are some important things to know:

🔹 Children 0–5: Birth registration is free at NPC registration centres.

🔹 Birth registration covers ages 0–17, while Birth Attestation is for people aged 18 and above.

🔹 NIN is now an important part of the process. NPC's system uses NIN to link identity and civil-registration records.

🔹 For a child's registration, the parent's Attestation Number may be required, while NPC says the child's NIN is also part of the registration requirements.

🔹 If you have an old/manual birth certificate, NPC has a Certificate Reissuance service. Eligible applicants need their NIN and must upload the old non-digital certificate.

🔹 Those using the self-service system may also need Birth Attestation before they can complete a child's registration.

The bigger issue is public awareness.

How many Nigerians with old birth certificates know that there is now a digital process for reissuance? How many know the NIN, attestation and other requirements before they get to an NPC office?

The National Population Commission @natpopcom and National Orientation Agency (@NOA_Nigeria) should take this information to the grassroots through radio, television, social media and community engagement.

Digital transformation is good. But Nigerians must be properly informed before they are asked to navigate the new system.

The teens and 20-year-olds that should be learning discipleship and christian character from us are learning branding and public posturing. It’s because that is what we have shown them.

We are branding ourselves as revivalists up and down and finding validation through gathering crowds. Many of them are not even being spiritually fed from your sermons as their pastors. You tell them stories that boost your ego and exalt yourself in their eyes. They now look to you and not the cross. How will they not fail?

We have mastered camera angles, instagram reels and short-form content to boost our “level” in “ministry”. We have learned to use Jesus and his church to push our personal brand. That is what they are picking up from us. They’ve seen us cover up evil in the name of “touch not the anointed”, it has emboldened them to do the same and even worse.

We are no longer satisfied to be in the local church to learn the word, pray, and be properly discipled. We have chosen “ministry activity” over consistency in character and doctrine. The next generation are seeing these things and picking them up. May we check our hearts and repent.

Before some will claim that it was their “white colleague” at work who played a part in the change, let me put it out here that we have notified the SSHD of our intention to challenge the restrictions on dependants of skilled workers sponsored in RQF Level 3 - 5 Occupation (HC 997, in force 22 July 2025) recently applied harshly to UK Born Children and children who arrived in the UK legally and currently in school.

The SSHD has 14 days to respond as to her position or we test the legality of the Policy before our court.

Nine Nigerians have decided to lead the fight and I sincerely thank them as well as wish more would join to make the battle worth the effort.

Yesterday I was scrolling through TikTok, and I came across a post by a young lady. She wrote that the day she found out her husband was cheating on her, something died inside her. She said she lost interest in the marriage and no longer had feelings for him.

Out of curiosity, I went to the comments.

What I found there was heartbreaking.

More than 500 women were sharing almost the exact same story.

Some said they had emotionally checked out years ago. Others admitted they were only staying because they were afraid of starting over. Many said they had no financial independence, had children to raise, and didn't know where they would go if they left.

What shocked me even more was that many of these women looked like they were under 30 years old. Young families. Young mothers. Many had started by cohabiting before settling into what they now call marriage.

Reading those comments made me ask myself a difficult question:

What are we doing as a generation?

Instead of talking about healing broken relationships, rebuilding trust, seeking counseling, taking responsibility, and fighting for their families, many are simply thinking about how to escape.

At the same time, some of the men have already found comfort elsewhere. They continue sleeping around as though there are no consequences. Some are building secret relationships. Some are getting other women pregnant while still going home to wives and children.

Then another family is destroyed.

Another child grows up in confusion.

Another woman loses trust.

Another man hardens his heart.

And the cycle continues.

The sad part is that nobody really wins.

The husband loses the respect of his family.

The wife loses her peace.

The children lose the healthy home they deserved.

The other woman eventually discovers that a man who can betray one family can also betray another.

Everyone bleeds.

We have become a generation that enters marriage without fully understanding the weight of the covenant.

Many people prepare for a wedding but never prepare for a marriage.

We spend months planning decorations, outfits, photos, and receptions, yet spend very little time discussing faithfulness, communication, forgiveness, finances, conflict resolution, commitment, and sacrifice.

Marriage is not sustained by butterflies.

It is sustained by character.

By honesty.

By discipline.

By loyalty.

By the fear of God.

If you are not ready to be faithful, why get married?

If you still want to live like you're single, why involve another person's life?

If you know commitment scares you, why make promises before God and witnesses that you have no intention of keeping?

Every act of unfaithfulness doesn't just affect two adults.

It leaves wounds in children.

It changes how people view love.

It creates trust issues that may last for years.

It makes people afraid to love again.

We cannot keep producing broken homes and then wonder why society is becoming more broken.

Marriage should never become a prison where someone stays only because they are financially trapped.

Neither should it become a playground where one partner does whatever they want while expecting the other to keep enduring the pain.

As a generation, we need to slow down.

We need to stop glorifying relationships while ignoring the responsibility that comes with them.

We need to stop treating marriage as a milestone to achieve instead of a lifelong covenant to honor.

Love is beautiful.

Marriage is beautiful.

But only when two people are willing to protect what they promised each other.

Otherwise, we will continue raising children in the very brokenness that we created ourselves, and future generations will inherit wounds they never asked for.

You love your children.
That’s why this is hard to talk about.

The colourful drinks that stain their tongue red or blue.
The gummies that say “vitamin” but taste like sweets.
They are not real food.

Most of us were taught that if something is made for children, it must be safe.
