The Cathedral of Syracuse was an ancient Greek temple.

It sits right on top of the old Temple of Athena.

Literally built into it.

Those huge Doric columns you see inside aren’t 'inspired by' the Greeks. They are the Greeks.

They didn’t destroy the temple. They filled the gaps and turned it into a church, letting the ancient structure live on almost untouched.

So you walk in and you’re surrounded by 2,500 years of history in one room.

Greek stone, medieval walls, Christian altars, all layered together.

It feels less like architecture and more like time folding in on itself.

An absolute wonder.

Een Duitse X-gebruiker deelt deze grafiek met de verontwaardigde opmerking: “Als je hiernaar kijkt, kan je toch onmogelijk de klimaatverandering ontkennen!”

Maar helaas voor hem ‘bewijst’ deze grafiek maar één ding: dat de temperatuur in Duitsland sinds het einde van de 19e eeuw gemiddeld wat is gestegen ten opzichte van een gekozen referentieperiode.
En dat zal best kunnen.
Ter info: als de gekozen referentieperiode toevallig het Romeinse Rijk was geweest, zag de grafiek er compleet anders uit maar ok. (Het was toen warmer dan nu, vandaar de rokjes en de blote voeten in de sandalen).

Het punt is dat deze grafiek echter totaal niet bewijst:

-dat de mens of CO2 de enige of zelfs dominante oorzaak is;
-dat een periode van ongeveer 140 jaar –op een planeet van 4,5 miljard jaar oud– volstaat om het volledige en bijzonder complexe klimaatsysteem te begrijpen;
-dat temperatuurmetingen uit 1881 en die van vandaag moeilijk vergelijkbaar zijn, tgv veranderingen in meetmethodes, stationlocaties, verstedelijking, instrumenten en landgebruik;
-dat natuurlijke variabiliteit, oceaanoscillaties, zonneactiviteit, bewolking, aerosolen, vulkanisme en andere factoren geen wezenlijke rol zouden spelen;
-of dat modelberekeningen en attributiestudies hetzelfde zijn als rechtstreeks empirisch bewijs.

Een stijgende trend over een zorgvuldig uitgekozen periode is een tijdelijke observatie.

Dit soort grafieken gelijkstellen aan “de mens heeft het gedaan” is puur naïef alarmisme.

Europe just experienced its coldest January since 2010 - but it didn't make the front page news. It didn't hit the airwaves either.

Yet January 2026 was colder than two-thirds of all the Januaries since 1940; when Lapland's temperatures regularly fell below -30°C and Norway recorded its 15th coldest January since 1901.

Right now, western Canada and the US are facing a sustained cold spell - but a heat wave on the east coast. This cold wave is due to a large atmospheric trough that has carved itself over the Pacific Northwest and the Northern Rockies. The reality for farmers in Southern Alberta, Montana and Idaho is unseasonably cold and wet weather that is actively delaying the growing season.

It highlights a core truth of atmospheric physics: the jet stream in the west is balancing out the heat wave in the east. It's a zero sum game. For a massive ridge of hot air to appear in one part of the world, a deep trough of cold air has to turn up somewhere else.

While the headlines are locked on 'global boiling', the meteorological reality across North America this month is a stark, double-edged sword. A stubborn, deep low-pressure system has locked cold air into the western half of the continent.

Across the Canadian Prairies - especially southern Alberta - late spring and June have been characterised by persistent cold, gray and rainy conditions. Soil temperatures have struggled to reach the thresholds required for optimal crop development.

If the heat doesn't arrive to dry out the crops, yield projections drop dramatically, and the risk of early autumn frost damage skyrockets.

Also, 38 (76% of) U.S. states set their “all-time” high temperature records prior to 1955.

In Europe, the situation is different, but trends in extreme heat over the last century are not globally homogenous. In many regions, there isn’t enough data pre-1950 to conclude anything robust over centennial scales.

Stay inside, chug some water, and quit complaining. Summers have always been hot. They always will be. Some have more heatwaves than others. Get a grip.

These suspects Polk'ed around and found out -- we don't tolerate theft here.

On Friday, June 26, 2026, PCSO deputies arrested 12 adults and 3 juveniles who were stealing food and drinks at the Davenport Wawa located on Old Lake Wilson Road; all of the suspects have been staying in an AirBNB visiting Polk from other counties in Florida. A 16th suspect was arrested during the investigation for interfering with deputies while they were detaining the theft suspects.

Store employees contacted the Sheriff's Office after observing the suspects walking around the store, concealing bottled drinks and some food within their clothes. The group of people appeared to all know each other, and arrived at the store in three separate vehicles - a BMW, a Tesla, and a Honda Accord.

The suspects, a mix of young adults and juveniles, were taking turns going into and out of the store during a 15-minute time span, some of them eating and drinking the items that they stole.

You know about Einstein and much of his work, yet you probably can't name a single thing Ludwig von Mises did, and that's a scandal.

In 1920 Mises published "Economic Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth." He proved, in a few dozen pages, that a socialist economy cannot allocate resources rationally. No private ownership of the means of production means no market for capital goods. No market means no prices. No prices means no way to compare the value of building a steel mill versus a rail line. The planners are flying blind. Seventy years later the Soviet Union collapsed under exactly the contradiction he described, and the men who run economics departments still pretend he was wrong on technical grounds. He called it in 1920. They called it bad luck in 1991.

Then there's "Human Action," 900 pages he wrote in his second language, building economics up from a single self-evident starting point: man acts. He acts to remove felt uneasiness. From that one axiom Mises derived the entire structure of prices, interest, money, and the business cycle without a single regression or pretend-physics equation. Einstein had the decency to work with constants that actually hold. You cannot run a controlled experiment on a human being who learns, anticipates, and changes his mind. Mises refused to fake one. The profession punished him for this honesty by handing Nobel prizes to people who model the economy like a billiard table.

Consider the man's life. He fled Vienna in 1934 as the Nazis closed in, then fled Geneva in 1940, landing in New York with no job and no English-language reputation. Harvard and Princeton, busy hiring central planners, never offered him a paid chair. He taught at NYU on a salary funded by private donors, including the William Volker Fund. Friedrich Hayek, his student, took the 1974 Nobel. Mises died in 1973, one year too early, never having received a dime of official recognition for being right about the largest economic question of the twentieth century.

You were taught to revere the man who explained the stars. The man who explained economic reality got erased.

In a just society, Mises would have received multiple Nobel prizes. Do you agree?

The “green” ferry project in Scotland was supposed to cost £97 Million. And has actually cost taxpayers about £500 MILLION! … and now they will fund another £600,000 for specialist consultants because ferry staff need training to handle imported LNG.

And that LNG is imported via Kent before being transported hundreds of miles to Scotland…. Using diesel.

After all of that, the CO₂ saving is less than 9% er …. And that’s optimistic!

The entire exercise has been a pointless waste of Taxpayers money for private companies profit! … 🤡
