And it's live! #GRIMACE, a classic McDonaldland character brought into the modern world of digital collectibles. Minted within the @McDonalds app which millions call their happy place. Powered by Bandwagon Labs with artwork from @TheHiddenWalls. Stay tuned for the mint! ⚡️
@thesparknick My curiosity is the contrast: why has music albums been almost disrupted by the streaming model (significant devaluation of the individual IP) while books still remain resilient. Perhaps when it gets way easier to write books (chatGPT?), we might see the same thing?
Why hasn’t ebook subscription model replaced pay-per-book (digital or physical alike) like streaming did for music or movies?
Perhaps readers are more intentional (quality over quantity), like collecting books (ownership vs access), or a more fragmented industry vs other media?
@thesparknick Yes audiobooks have taken off, and you're right - it's in the "podcast" category. But audiobooks are probably still mostly in the pay-per-book model (I think) than a subscription to a whole library.
@benedictevans Possible. The inventory days of major US retailers over the past 10 years seem to follow this trend (discounting periods of slowing sales)
@benedictevans Looked at this as a transport analyst 3 years back. I don’t think the decline is purely due to e-commerce: penetration is only ~15%, but the ratio declined >25%.
May be demand prediction / supply chain mgmt, or consolidation of SKUs which requires fewer inventories?
@digitalslowmad Complexity doesn’t necessarily translate into intrinsic value; it may even be a cover-up. I would argue that the Axie bust was driven by lack of intrinsic value (i.e. entertaining) more than its simplicity.
Do you think DFK is more entertaining than Axie?
@ckttam agree with this, having another set of derivatives is probably a distraction. they should focus on the main content that would help extend the reach of doodles!
@byhazellim I was listening to your spaces about venture studio. Interesting take on “personal venture studio” as I have been in a corporate-ish one. Hope you continue to share your journey!
@ljin18@TaliaGold would be interesting to see whether this unfavourable risk/reward fairs against network effect. We’ll need to see a tipping point where there is mass exodus, and when it happens, it will happen fast!
Digital collectibles: “The average person… doesn’t understand and doesn’t care what an NFT is.”
Maybe we could rethink about loyalty programs?
