The Sinhalese committed Tamil genocide because they believe the whole island was promised to their ancestors over 2000 years ago to protect Buddhism. They believe every patch of land is sacred to them and Tamil Hindu settlements are illegal encroachments on ancient Buddhist sites. Their Sangha with the support of the military and archeology department lay claim on every patch of land with a bodhi tree even if privately owned by Tamils. This is the reason why every political solution intended to provide regional autonomy to Tamils has failed. The Sangha have the final veto as they are the kingmakers of Sri Lankan politics. It’s practically a Buddhist theocracy where the primacy of Buddhism is enshrined in the constitution.

Although popularly depicted as an ethnic conflict as opposed to religious, it’s a false binary that doesn’t apply to Sri Lanka, specially to the Sinhalese Buddhists. Buddhism has also been popularly associated with peace but in Sri Lanka, its oldest refuge, it’s associated with pedophilia, necrophilia, mass rapes and genocide. It might be a difficult truth to stomach for Ambedkarites but it was in Buddhist Sri Lanka the largest number of Dalits were massacred in the entire history of the Indian subcontinent, as the LTTE had a strong base among the subaltern classes of Eelam. Once again, Sri Lanka defies all simplistic binaries which is why it should be judged on its own merits.

Let’s not forget that time when Sri Lankan court sentenced five innocent TN fishermen to death for drug trafficking after being framed by the Sri Lankan navy. The reported deletion of the comment and his expression of remorse deserve compassionate consideration, alongside all relevant facts and applicable legal provisions. We earnestly appeal to the authorities to consider commuting his death sentence and granting him every available legal opportunity to seek forgiveness and demonstrate sincere repentance.

We fully respect the laws, judicial institutions, and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This appeal is made solely on humanitarian grounds, with sincere respect for Islam, all other religions, and the sanctity of human life.

An act of mercy would bring immense hope and relief to his family and loved ones. It would also demonstrate the enduring importance of compassion, forgiveness, and the possibility of personal transformation, even when a serious mistake has been made.

We therefore earnestly appeal to Your Royal Highness and the relevant judicial and royal authorities to consider granting Mr. Sivarasa Anojan a pardon or commuting his sentence through the appropriate legal and royal channels.

Please give him a second chance at life. Let this case become an opportunity for repentance, forgiveness, reconciliation, and renewed commitment to respecting the religious beliefs and dignity of others.

The LTTE was formed in 1972, and by 1983 it had already established independent arms lines that Indian intelligence was unaware of. It initially accepted rudimentary training from India that was also offered to other militant groups, but for the LTTE this served mainly as a means of infiltration to monitor Indian recruitment within those factions.

The arms supplied at that stage were mostly small arms, and one of the most significant forms of support the LTTE received was MGR’s ₹5 crore contribution, which was used for logistics.

The LTTE also learned of plans by Rajiv Gandhi after 1984 through infiltration and money paid to the womaniser Uma Maheswaran, leader of PLOTE, and Sri Saba, leader of TELO, to eliminate Prabhakaran for refusing to toe his line.

Rajiv Gandhi, in his usual hubris, assumed these saram clad boys could be controlled, but he underestimated the LTTE’s sophistication. By 1985, the LTTE already had ears inside the cabinet and was aware of these moves, though I will refrain from elaborating on how those intelligence leaks occurred. Many armchair national security commentators live in Bollywood style hubris, and it is simply not worth my time trying to convince them otherwise.

Before the usual incredulity about how the LTTE outplayed others, with claims such as “They must have had Mossad, the CIA, or the KGB behind them,” I would urge people to study the credentials of its principal figures and the precision of its intelligence wing. An organisation like the LTTE can never exist again, not because of lack of will, but because its effectiveness lay in the ingenuity of its own internal organisation, not in external patronage. The fact that its intelligence machinery remains largely unexposed even after the total elimination of its leadership is testament to that sophistication.

Sri Lankan intelligence in fact only discovered the LTTE’s external intelligence chief by chance in 2014, when he was living under a Muslim identity. He consumed cyanide as security forces closed in. Even after the LTTE’s defeat, states still struggle to understand how it organised logistics and moved material for major attacks. Any seasoned defence analyst will attest to how professional the LTTE was, and only those unwilling to accept that a bunch of Tamils achieved this level of sophistication resort to lazy tropes about drug trafficking or foreign agency support.

A Mahinda Rajapaksa supporter and journalist was also involved in sharing cropped comments of Anojan with the Saudi government.

In this post, he says that he is eagerly waiting for the “final match” on October 17 the deadline for Anojan’s case appeal. He further frames the situation as a contest over who will “win,” Hindus or Muslims, and makes a disturbing joke while asking for people’s views on the death penalty.

It is deeply disturbing to see people treating a matter involving a person’s life and death as if it were a sporting event or a source of entertainment. Such rhetoric is vile and dehumanising, especially when the consequences could mean the death of a fellow human being.

One of the most revealing details about India’s involvement in the final Eelam war only came to light because of a court case. In 2019, an Indian Air Force serviceman went to court after being denied a promotion because the government would not publicly acknowledge his military role in Sri Lanka. The resulting court records disclosed that he had been deployed to Sri Lanka under a covert operation called “Project Drishti” from 2007 to 2008, where he was wounded during an LTTE attack.

India must have been watching the development of the rebel air force, Air Tigers, with alarm, especially after their impressive raid on Anuradhapura Air Force Base in 2007. So, India provided its radars to Sri Lanka along with a team of its air force personnel under the guise of civilian technicians to help monitor rebel aircrafts. An anti-aircraft missile system was also gifted to shoot them down.

The case is significant because it suggests India gave far more military assistance to Sri Lanka than it publicly acknowledged and it can now be counted alongside Pakistan as key contributors to the destruction of Tamil Eelam.

Indian military assistance also extended to the sea by providing intelligence to sink the LTTE vessels transporting arms. Both sides kept mum about this due to TN public sentiments.

India claimed the reason for providing radars was to prevent Chinese radars being used against India, but Sri Lanka also bought Chinese radars anyway. The China card is just an excuse to keep Tamil nationalism in check.

Congress government pressured Sri Lanka to finish the war before the general election in 2009, which might explain the disproportionate use of force and surge in civilian casualties in the final weeks.

I’m not so naive about sanghis. But it’s not about them. Hinduism is also a millennia old Tamil heritage that precedes modern politics. Proud of being both Hindu and an ethnicity is the default among Eelam Tamils and other Indian groups. These were never mutually exclusive. It’s Dravidam and Hindutva that are novelties. You can’t deny your counterparts in Karnataka see “slum kongas” as subhumans either.

Dstocks not only denied the Hindu heritage of Tamils but also their ethnic pride by misleading them with Dravidian identity and solidarity so that now their clueless youth are embarrassing themselves by seeking brotherhood with people who don’t share that mindset and in fact look down on them. Tamil as the mother also leads to this predicament. Let Tamil be a self-contained and secure identity without reference to outsiders. If we’re going to be pseudoscientific, I’d much rather prefer a theory that says Tamil is unrelated to any.
