Throwback Thursday highlighting our beautiful, neighbouring town of Elliston. They have puffins, icebergs, beaches, foxes, eagles, amazing landscape, approximately 133 Root Cellars, and beautiful people. #ThrowbackThursday#explorenl
For every retweet this receives, @ArleneDickinson is donating $1 (up to $10,000), to the @CalgaryFoodBank!
In times like these, the generosity and community-minded spirit of Calgarians is needed more than ever.
Every $1 in donations buys $5 in food.

In these tough #coronavirus days, let's not forget the 166 brave sealers on the SS Newfoundland & SS Stephano; 78 perished 106 yrs ago today. In their honour & of all those who have lost their lives at sea, try to visit the
@SealersMemorial in @TownofElliston once it is safe.
While talking with many visitors during the summer season, I'm always surprised with the number of NL'ers who haven't been to our area before. While I've seen much of the Island, there's still a few places that I would love to visit...1/3
Once the Social Distancing is over (hopefully sooner rather than later), where would you like to go? What would you like to do? In Newfoundland and Labrador of course...
PS. One of my favorite places was Cataracts Provincial Park...so pretty!!
The beaches at Lumsden & Burgeo, Battle Harbour, and Gros Morne are at the top of my list. I can remember someone telling me about a waterfall in the Springdale area?? I'd also like to do the hike in Sunnyside. So much to do in our own backyard. 2/3
CANCELLATION NOTICE
Due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, Tourism Elliston has decided to cancel the upcoming 2020 Bird Island Puffin Festival. We hope to see you all again the third weekend in July, 2021. 1/2
Interesting read today from Oct 18/1957.
"Asian flu of 1957, outbreak of influenza that was first identified in February 1957 in East Asia and that subsequently spread to countries worldwide. The 1957 Asian flu was the second major influenza pandemic to occur in the 20th century"
Something amazing just happened, and it didn’t make a single headline.
It happened in a place you’ve probably never been, to a family you’ve never met
And it's the best story you'll read.
A Thread.
(Hint: It involves sports, refugees, and what it means to be Canadian.)
Mr. Samuel J. Ryan was a correspondent for the Evening Telegram for many years covering this area. We will be sharing some of his articles over the next few months. This article, from Feb 20th, 1961, caught my attention today given all the plows out. #TBT#baselonggone#elliston
