Today is a big day for our community. We have established a partnership with Roots Allotment for the provision of surplus food for migrant women in our community. Starting in July, we will have fresh and organic food available in the centre from roots allotment in addition to what we grew ourselves in our allotment. Exchanged for free performance from our Heritage Group๐
We are so grateful for this support. This initiative is going to change many lives.
This is not a quick fix or a form of assistentialism. Most women in our community come from an asylum background and are waiting for their status to start working and living a normal life. Sometimes the wait can be as long as three years. During this time, families are living in hotels and experiencing extreme food poverty.
Having a space where they can
have a balanced, nutritional meal at least twice a week, a space in nature to connect to nature in addition to receiving mental health support and help with integrating into the community, will prevent their mental and physical health from declining during this waiting period.
This partnership is more than just supporting people with nutrition; we are supporting a future generation to thrive.
Thank you @RootsAllotments for the support. We so much appreciate what youโre doing for communities in Uk.
Our out door area is wonderful and the children so happy and overwhelmed by the kindness of All Rootsย - Good Vibes Project! Some of the statements have been, 'Wow, it is good to know people care about us.' ' I am speechless, I love this.' @RootsAllotments@VenturersAc
Just collected a donation of sweet baby carrots, early parsnips and a couple of celeriac from the @RootsAllotments donation cupboard. ๐ฅฌ ๐ฅ
This is the latest collection CropDrop have ever had from an allotment, overtaking the previous late donation champions at Combe Down! ๐
Amazing donations from @RootsAllotments Tuckers Meadow heading to @MercyInActionUK today. There are chilis, beetroot, courgettes, marvellous marrows, beans, squash and cucumbers galore!
CropDrop are delighted to share that we are supporting the @RootsAllotments community abundant produce.
On 10/7 Fiona from @MercyinActionUK collected the first donation for their amazing Action Pantry in Twerton.
One of the delighted customers said "the garlic was really nice".
@EquicultureJane@Ducklady27@DeborahMeaden This is not the case at all, we will use arable land to create a growing space that is good for people and the planet and enables 100s of new people to learn to grow.
@westrowhendo @Paul1968T @RobM37099974 @DeborahMeaden@nationaltrust Apologies. Our information came from Defra which said the SSSI is Avon Gorge, not Leigh Woods.
@Paul1968T @RobM37099974 @DeborahMeaden Leigh Woods is not an SSSI. Itโs a nature reserve. The closest SSSI to our site is actually Ashton Court Golf Course funnily enough.
Hereโs how allotments compare to Nature Reserves (NR) for pollinators. A study across 4 cities by Bristol Uni.
@Clairerising@DeborahMeaden Our patches include, seeds, tools, plug plants, online courses, talks and workshops. Comparing like for like prices isn't the reality of what we are offering. There are 25% discounts for those on income support, service personel and blue light workers.
@Clairerising@DeborahMeaden Allotments do not require planning permission when set up on agricultural land because horticulture is a practise within agriculture. This land is classified as modified grassland that has been used for grazing cattle and in previous years ploughed to grow crops.
@DeborahMeaden@chrisG987 There is even plastics in expensive bagged compost, and even rotted cow manure. We got the 1st load removed from site due to the amount of plastic in it and have found a new supplier who can screen to a much smaller size.
