FUN FACT:
With $4 billion, Ontario could fully fund the salaries and benefits of approximately 4,400 to 5,000 full-time nurses continuously over an 8-year period.
Instead @fordnation is planning on cutting 2500 more nurses over the next 2 years.
There’s no mystery behind Mayor Olivia Chow’s budget record. Just math that is readily available for all to see in 100's of pdf's available on line. The budget is public.
The candidates complaining about the increases should tell us what they plan to cut: Of the $882 million in new spending under Chow, about 30%, or $266 million, went to an increase in the police budget. Libraries are now open on Sundays. Crisis response teams now work alongside police to help people in distress on the street. Traffic agents. Wheel trans to improve accessible transit.
There is also proof in the pudding: less homelessness in Toronto (8%) at a time when everywhere else in the Province there have been surges (23% Province-wide). Spending strategically and surgically, and measuring outcomes, has been working. We need more of this, not less.
If candidates have a beef with spending, they should point out what they would cut, specifically.

I'll never get this Gillian Flynn quote out of my mind, because it's true: "They don't care about us enough to hate us. We are simply a form of livestock."
And oh yeah, forgot to mention, J.D. Vance is heavily invested in a company called AcreTrader which is designed to let venture capitalists buy distressed American farmland for pennies on the dollar. It's almost like they planned it this way. Bankrupt them then liquidate them.
Chris Murphy: "On April 30 -- a Thursday -- Reynolds, one of the biggest tobacco countries in the country, makes an $8 million donation to the president. Two days later on Saturday, they have lunch with the president and tell him they want a change in FDA rules, especially regarding flavored vapes. The presidents calls the FDA commissioner and secretary of HHS, and three days later, on Tuesday, new guidance is issued that paves the way to the sale of flavored vapes. That is not a coincidence."
This is a huge NYT investigation into how Russia uses shell companies and Tether, a crypto coin, to evade sanctions and buy arms.
What it doesn't mention is that the main U.S. backer of Tether is Cantor Fitzgerald, the firm run by Howard Lutnick's sons. https://t.co/ivQhkhKhU4
If private equity executives hollow out hospitals and nursing homes and people die, they should face real consequences.
Health care should be about patients, not profits.
NEW: The Ontario NDP is asking the auditor general to launch a value-for-money audit into the Staples contract for classroom supplies.
Teachers were given a $750 spending account, but have raised issues with cost, delivery timelines, or portal access issues.

ICE has been detaining a record number of pregnant women since Donald Trump’s return to office. According to records obtained by The Guardian, the agency also "lost count” of miscarriages suffered by women held in detention almost a year ago. https://t.co/IdYe7eaGJS
Notice forced-birthers never vomit explicit murder fantasies about these men. They don't mention them at all. Almost like it's only "murdering babies" when women exercise bodily autonomy.

Almost a decade ago Texas Governor Greg Abbott personally recruited pastor Robert Morris to help promote an anti-trans bathroom bill.
And then in 2025, Morris pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 12 year old.
After serving only 6 months in jail, Morris is now free.
Just a timely reminder that freedom of the press is a fundamental, constitutionally protected, feature of our democracy.
The comments expressed by the Premier above are, unfortunately, shared by those at the highest levels in the Premier’s Office — a feeling of distain that is felt almost daily.

This is a childish insult to the tens of thousands of people who organized to stop Doug Ford's ridiculous airport expansion. The Premier didn't get his way, so his government is lashing out at constituents for using their democratic rights.
Doug Ford's obsession with Toronto has gone on long enough. Bill 110 is still law, and gives him the power to do whatever he wants with Little Norway Park and the Toronto Islands. It's time for the Premier to end this land grab by killing Bill 110, and giving these lands back to the City of Toronto.
