LIFT Daily Prayer: A Prayer For You In The New Year | December 31, 2025

Today’s Passage: Colossians 1:9–14 (NKJV)
“For this reason we have not stopped praying for you since we heard of you, asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you would walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God. We pray that you would be strengthened with all power according to His glorious might, so you can endure with patience and joy, giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has rescued us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins.”

On this final morning together, this is the passage prayed over you: that you would be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, that you would walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. That you would be strengthened with all might according to His glorious power, able to endure with patience and joy. That you would live as someone sharing in the inheritance of the saints in the light, delivered from the power of darkness and transferred into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom you have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

❖ Did God Replace Israel… or Did We Replace His Meaning?

In the last days, scoffing rarely sounds like laughter.
More often it sounds like reinterpretation that quietly drains expectation.

“In the last days scoffers will come… saying, ‘Where is the promise of his coming?’”
2 Peter 3:3–4

Peter is not describing atheists.
He is describing a posture that handles Scripture while neutralizing its force.

Scoffing is not always denial. Often it is redefinition.

❖ This Is Not Merely Hermeneutics — It Is Spiritual Warfare

Ideas are not neutral. Doctrine shapes vigilance.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood… but against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12)
“So that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.” (2 Corinthians 2:11)
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion.” (1 Peter 5:8)

One of those designs is subtle:
make God’s promises flexible instead of faithful, and watchfulness fades.

❖ God Anchored Israel’s Future to Creation Itself

God did not speak vaguely about Israel’s destiny.

“If the fixed order of the sun and the moon departs… then shall the offspring of Israel cease from being a nation… forever.” (Jeremiah 31:35–36)

“If heaven above can be measured… then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel.” (Jeremiah 31:37)

“God is not a man, that he should lie… Has he said, and will he not do it?” (Numbers 23:19)

As long as creation stands, the covenant stands.
This is oath-bound covenant language.

❖ Discipline Is Not Divorce

Israel was judged. Israel was scattered.
But Scripture explicitly rejects the conclusion that God is finished with her.

“Has God rejected his people? By no means!”
(Romans 11:1)

“God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew.” (Romans 11:2)

“A partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.” (Romans 11:25)

Until destroys permanent replacement.

❖ Israel’s Future Salvation Is Covenant Fulfillment, Not Metaphor

“And in this way all Israel will be saved… ‘The Deliverer will come from Zion.’” (Romans 11:26)
“As regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers.” (Romans 11:28)
“For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” (Romans 11:29)

If “irrevocable” can be reassigned, then words no longer bind.

❖ The New Covenant Is Explicitly Jewish

“I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.” (Jeremiah 31:31)

Gentiles are gloriously included. Inclusion is not substitution.

“You were… alienated from the commonwealth of Israel… But now… you have been brought near.” (Ephesians 2:12–13)

❖ Dry Bones Are Not Replaced — They Are Raised

“I will take the people of Israel from the nations… and bring them into their own land.” (Ezekiel 37:21)
“I will make them one nation in the land… and one king shall be king over them all.” (Ezekiel 37:22)
“My servant David shall be king over them.” (Ezekiel 37:24)

Land. Nation. King. Davidic rule.
Hebrew Prophets > Plato.

❖ Revelation 12 Pulls Back the Curtain

“The dragon stood before the woman… to devour her child.” (Revelation 12:4)
“The dragon became furious with the woman and went off to make war.” (Revelation 12:17)

The storyline is unmistakable: the woman (Israel), the child (Messiah), the Kingdom promise.
If Israel were irrelevant, the dragon would not be enraged.

❖ Paul’s Warning to Gentile Believers Still Applies

“Do not be arrogant toward the branches… it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.” (Romans 11:18)
“Do not become proud, but fear.” (Romans 11:20)

❖ Both Testaments Are Thoroughly Jewish

The Bible is not a generic spiritual book later wrapped in Jewish language. It is a Jewish covenant story from Genesis to Revelation.

“In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3)
“The LORD… has visited and redeemed his people.” (Luke 1:68)
“He has raised up a horn of salvation… in the house of his servant David.” (Luke 1:69)

The New Testament opens with a Jewish genealogy and a Jewish title:

“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.” (Matthew 1:1)

Jesus’ mission is framed inside Israel’s promises:

“I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” (Matthew 15:24)

“Salvation is from the Jews.” (John 4:22)

The apostles preached the gospel as Israel’s hope reaching the nations:

“You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant… ‘In your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’” (Acts 3:25)
“To them belong the covenants… the promises… and from their race… is the Christ.” (Romans 9:4–5)

And the Bible’s climax remains Jewish in kingship and identity:

“The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered.” (Revelation 5:5)

“The Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David… and of his kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:32–33)

Christianity does not float above Israel.
It flows from her Messiah, exactly as promised.

❖ Replacement Theology as Spiritual Identity Theft

Replacement Theology often functions like spiritual identity theft in two ways:

❖ It takes Israel’s name while denying Israel’s future
God speaks covenant promises to Israel in real history. Reassigning the recipient while keeping the blessing is not fulfillment. It is theft.

“The Deliverer will come from Zion… this will be my covenant with them…” (Romans 11:26–27)

“As regards election, they are beloved…” (Romans 11:28)

Paul’s olive tree forbids it:

“Remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.” (Romans 11:18)

❖ It turns adoption into replacement

The New Testament’s glory is Gentile inclusion by grace, not Israel’s erasure.

“You have received the Spirit of adoption as sons.” (Romans 8:15)

“If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.” (Galatians 3:29)

“Has God rejected his people? By no means!”
(Romans 11:1)

Inclusion is biblical. Substitution is not.
Grafting in is biblical. Cutting out is not.

❖ Spurgeon Saw the Danger Clearly

“If there is meaning in words… I wish never to learn the art of tearing God’s meaning out of His own Words.”

“If there is anything promised in the Bible, it is this… an actual restoration of the children of Israel.”

❖ A Careful, Biblical Conclusion

Not every believer who holds Replacement Theology intends to scoff. Many love Christ and await His return.
But the system often functions like scoffing by flattening prophetic expectation and weakening watchfulness.

❖ Watchman’s Call

“When you see all these things, you know that he is near.” (Matthew 24:33)
“Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” (Revelation 22:7)
“Surely I am coming soon.” (Revelation 22:20)

God’s promises are not symbolic placeholders. They are covenant commitments.

The war is real.
The Scriptures are Jewish.
The promises stand.

And the King is coming — exactly as written.

❖ Israel Is Israel. The Church Is the Church.

If you simply read the New Testament the way it was written — without philosophy or filters — the distinction is unmistakable.

Israel is mentioned about 73 times in the NT.
Not once — not a single time — does it ever mean “the Church.”
Every usage is ethnic, national, literal.

Jerusalem appears over 140 times.
Never once as a synonym for “the Church.”
Always the real city.

Zion appears 7 times.
Every reference ties to Messiah’s Jewish identity or His future rule from Jerusalem.
Never the Church.

And here is the common-sense dagger:
If God meant “the Church” when He said “Israel,” He had 73 chances in the NT to say so — and He never did.

Not once does the NT say:
“the Church is the new Israel.”
“Christians are spiritual Jews.”
“Israel is now the Church.”
That teaching is found nowhere in the Bible.

God spoke plainly:

“I will make of you a great nation…” (Gen 12)
“I have sworn to David… your throne for all generations.” (Ps 89)
“If this fixed order departs… then shall Israel cease from being a nation before Me.” (Jer 31)

These aren’t symbols.
They’re oaths.

Yet history tried to overwrite them.

Justin Martyr called the Church “true Israel.”
Chrysostom called the synagogue “forsaken.”
Luther (late in life) wanted them burned.
Calvin systematized their displacement.

But the Spirit had already spoken:

“Has God rejected His people? By no means.” (Rom 11:1–2)
“They did not stumble so as to fall.” (Rom 11:11)
“Their acceptance — life from the dead.” (Rom 11:15)
“A partial hardening… until the fullness of the Gentiles… and all Israel will be saved.” (Rom 11:25–26)
“The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” (Rom 11:29)

Irrevocable means irrevocable.
Israel means Israel.
Nation means nation.

Even the two “favorite” Supersessionist prooftexts collapse under common sense:

Romans 9:6 distinguishes Israel (the nation) from Israel (the believing remnant) — both ethnic, never the Church.
Galatians 6:16 blesses “the Israel of God” — the Jewish believers, not Gentiles renamed Israel.

Paul never changes the meaning of the word Israel.
Not once.

The prophets echo the same future:

“I will restore your fortunes…” (Zeph 3)
“Jerusalem a heavy stone to all nations…” (Zech 12)
“They will look on Me whom they pierced.” (Zech 12:10)
“His feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives… the Lord King over all the earth.” (Zech 14)

A literal people.
A literal land.
A literal King in Zion.

Revelation reveals the spiritual battlefield:

“A woman clothed with the sun…” (Rev 12:1)
“She gave birth to the male child who will rule the nations…” (Rev 12:5)
“The dragon went to make war on her offspring — those who hold the testimony of Jesus.” (Rev 12:17)

Two targets:
Israel (the woman).
The Church (her offspring).
Never merged. Never blurred.

Supersessionism collapses them into one — which is exactly why the dragon loves it.

Because if he can erase Israel’s identity, he can blur the covenants.
If he can blur the Church’s identity, he can weaken her vigilance.
If he can dissolve “Zion” into metaphor, he can fog the map of prophecy.

In the words of Spurgeon:
“Interpret Scripture literally unless the sense plainly forbids it.”
Supersessionism forbids what Scripture itself affirms.

Behind the theologians stood a darker whisper:

“Deceiving spirits… teachings of demons.” (1 Tim 4:1)
“The deceiver of the whole world.” (Rev 12:9)

A strategic lie — divide and conquer.

But God’s Word holds the line:

Israel remains the nation He chose.
The Church remains the Bride He redeemed.
Jerusalem remains the city of the Great King.
Zion remains His future throne.

Israel will meet her Messiah.
The Church will return with her King.
And the nations will see what Satan tried to hide.

❖ Israel is Israel.
The Church is the Church.
The dragon hates the distinction —
and Scripture protects it.
