Dangote Gets Heroโs Welcome in Ethiopia, Raises Investment to $4bn
President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, received a warm welcome in Gode, Ethiopia, where he was hosted by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed.
Both leaders visited the site of the proposed fertiliser plant to assess ongoing construction. Ethiopia had signed a shareholdersโ agreement with Dangote Group in August last year to establish a urea plant with a capacity of three million metric tonnes annually.
Dangote announced an increase in investment from $2.5 billion to over $4 billion, reflecting expanded scope, including a 110km pipeline, a 120MW power plant, a polypropylene packaging facility, and a two-million-tonne NPK blending plant.
Prime Minister Abiy described the project as a strategic initiative to boost agriculture, enhance food security, and reduce import dependence. He noted steady construction progress and expressed confidence in its impact on farmers, job creation, and economic growth.
The project reinforces Dangote Groupโs commitment to industrial development across Africa.
Terrible! No wonder why AFCON gets hosted in the same countries almost always, other countries just donโt want to develop until forced. ๐ฉ#CryMyAfrica
100,000 South Africans are now being paid to sleep well !!!
Discovery Vitality launched Vitality Sleep Rewards in South Africa last week, and over 100,000 members have already activated the benefit.
Bringing behavioural economics to sleep
Vitality Sleep Rewards applies the proven behavioural economics of Vitality Active Rewards, Vitalityโs weekly incentive that rewards members for achieving their personalised physical activity goal, to sleep.
Members receive and view their dynamic, personalised weekly sleep goals in the Discovery app. By meeting these goals, whether through improving bedtime regularity, sleep duration or sleep quality, members earn instant rewards, choosing between รiscovery Miles or a partner reward each week.
This marks the first time in almost 20 years that we have added a new core pillar to the Vitality programme! This milestone reflects a genuine leap forward in how we think about health, and in how we continue to evolve a programme that has always been anchored in our core purpose of making people healthier. ย
Why sleep matters
Establishing sleep alongside physical activity, nutrition and screening signals how seriously we view its role in preventive health. Our research, drawn from tens of millions of nights of sleep data, shows a clear and consistent relationship between sleep and long-term health.
We know that poor sleep raises the risk of hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, depression and Alzheimerโs disease. Good sleep can reduce mortality risk by up to 24% and cut motor vehicle accident risk by 36%, adding millions of healthy years to the lives of our members. ย
The Vitality Sleep Score
That same rich dataset allowed us to develop the Vitality Sleep Score. It is proprietary and personalised, grounded in real health outcomes rather than surface-level metrics. The score draws on longitudinal data to identify the sleep behaviours that truly matter over time, and it adapts to each personโs context by factoring in demographics, clinical conditions and lifestyle behaviours. The result is insight that is relevant, credible and actionable.
One aspect of this launch that feels especially meaningful for me is the scale of collaboration behind it. Sleep is not a single discipline problem. It spans research, clinical science, data analytics, artificial intelligence, systems, devices, partnerships, banking and insurance. Bringing all of those parts together into one coherent experience required teams from across the Discovery Group to work closely, solve complex challenges and stay aligned around a shared purpose over an extended period of time.
The Discovery model in action
This launch also shows the Discovery composite model in action. Our exclusive partnership with Oura, enabled through Discovery Bank, allows members to access advanced sleep tracking technology and fully fund it by building healthier behaviours. Sleep tracking also works across existing devices, with a smartphone-based option (the Vitality Sleep Tracker) coming soon for members without a suitable sleep-tracking device.
We are still at the beginning of this journey. Over the months ahead, sleep will become even more embedded across Vitality, Discovery Health, and Discovery Insure, supported by further research, expert engagement and Personalised Health Pathways that help members build habits that last.
Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this happen. Some moments matter because they remind you what is possible when ambitious goals, science and teamwork come together, and this is one of them!

Folks are upset cause i said we must learn from South African Democracy. As Africans we must learn not hate.
A Police Commissioner accused his boss of Corruption on TV. Elsewhere Mkwanazi would've been fired for that. Hate or love them SA has most stable institutions in Africa !
