@alaresurrected@bat_ein@DastDn I think the suggested storage medium was green hydrogen, don't recall any data on cost / feasibility. Fortunately it is just a theoretical scenario as everyone (not Germany) is building nuclear, including SMRs
@alaresurrected@bat_ein@DastDn Very theoretically they could be, there's a paper with a calculation for all-renewable power, that shows that we would need something like 7% of the annual consumptiom in storage capacity to avoid disruptions based on historical weather data.
@bat_ein@alaresurrected@DastDn Europe should pray that they will manage to replace them, on some days French nuclear power plants are the only thing preventing the blackouts.
@alaresurrected@DastDn It's not "Europe", decommissioning was mostly idiotic decision made by Germany, other projects are mostly very old Soviet-era reactors in I think Bulgaria and Baltics. Some will probably be closed in France/UK as well bc they are like 50 yo.
