Eliezer Ben-Yehuda coined the word תִּזְמֹרֶת in 1892 as the Hebrew equivalent for “concert” based on the root זמ״ר, which signifies “singing.” Then three years later he repurposed it as the equivalent of “orchestra,” which is the word’s meaning to this day.
