I wish everyone celebrating both #ColumbusDay and #IndigenousPeoplesDay joy and love. Let's not diminish each other's cultures, but celebrate both.

Supporters of the holiday make arguments similar to Cuomoโs: That itโs more about honoring Italians for the role they played in building the United States. Many supporters of the holiday also note Italians faced discrimination of their own in the past.

Columbus was the name given to the day, but he is not all of us. We are artists, songwriters, actors, nurses, doctors, chefs, Renaissance People.
The day is about the culture, not the name.

Italian-American History is dark. 1n 1891, 11 Italian Nationals were murdered. The outrage almost sparked war. It took until 1934 for the Holiday to be recognized by FDR.
Italians often had a hard time finding work, and were the only nationality to work along-side former slaves.

@LakotaMan1 As an Italian-American, I respectfully asking why this day being taken away as Italian Heritage us more important than trying to understand that Christopher Columbus is not indicative of modern day Italian-Americans, abd has nothing to do with our culture. He's just a name.
The world is on fire and we spend our time fighting about holidays, abortion rights, and vaccines. But we do nothing to actually come together.

There should be 2 National Days of Recognition for each culture. The ability to celebrate further, learn more and be more united comes from giving each culture its dignity to celebrate. I said what I said.

I don't think replacing a day is good for anyone, but creating more holidays, always good.
