TAKE IT FROM ME ON TUESDAYS: Great Books By And About Black Women.
“That we die may be the meaning of life. But we do language. That may be the measure of our lives.”
📚💫Toni Morrison(1931-2019)💫📚
Donald Trump just used a primetime address to relitigate an election he lost six years ago — and to demand new laws making it harder to vote.
Americans see through the lies. He tried this in Georgia first: a call to "find 11,780 votes," a raid on Fulton County, and now a war on the ballot itself.
That's not democracy. That's cowardice. America, we've beaten it before.
Do not laugh about this speech. It’s impossible to follow but he’s directly challenging our right to vote. The president of the United States is lying in order to wage war on our democracy and against the states. I don’t care your politics; everybody should be outraged.
“Believe women. If you have a niggling feeling that something isn’t right, ask questions, come with a few resources.
Listen over time until a woman feels safe enough to tell you, find the resources in your community that can be of help.”
-Doreen Dodgen-Magee, psychologist whose sister and neices were murdered by husband/father.

Starting with AI?
“What are your capabilities and how can I use them?”

Example from @WesEklund:
I want to come up with a new workout plan. With the latest academic literature, give me a workout plan for 3 days. Tell the AI something about your demographics.
You will have less hallucinations if you clean up your computer — less can be more in using AI.

Incredible thrill to see Paul Simon at @ForestHillsStdm this week.
This is Paul, 84, at the closing of his three-hour concert (!!!) singing “America” & “The Sound of Silence.” He started with his “Seven Psalms” suite followed by a masterful mix of his most popular
hits & his lesser known compositions.
What a night of his poetry & music! It was a magical evening.
Grateful. 🙏🏻🇺🇸🎼
Legend.
Platner’s message in his video is disgustingly narcissistic claiming the allegations of rape are false and “big forces” were conspiring against him.
Who are the victims?
They are our heroes.
#WomenToFollow
In the end, Platner chose as his closing act a page right out of @realDonaldTrump's tawdry playbook.
Deny. Deflect. Refuse responsibility. Play the martyr; slime your accusers.
Platner built an admirable movement.
But there was nothing admirable about the way he said goodbye.
All that video you're seeing on the NYT these days? That's not an experiment, exec editor Joe Kahn tells me. It's the future.
Turning the Times into a multimedia publisher, with a heavy emphasis on video, is "the most important transformation underway now in the newsroom."
Breaking:
“An ex-girlfriend of embattled Senate candidate Graham Platner told The Washington Post that he repeatedly removed protection without her consent when they were having sex.”

“We are living with the consequences of a man who has the incredible audacity to think his past actions will not catch up with him.”
@jessicamackler of Emily’s List tells @Lawrence about Graham Platner.
“This idea it takes men with big, burley beards to connect with voters is just wrong.”

@NiemanReports “Called “the pope in the pool” technique, in essence, it’s about how to keep people watching while giving them potentially dry information. The pope tells his stories not while sitting at a desk, but while swimming in a pool.“

Valerie Thomas
“In 1976 Thomas became intrigued by 3D illusions after viewing a demonstration in which a light bulb seemed to stay lit even after being removed from a lamp. The illusion was created by means of a concave mirror reflecting a second light bulb. Thomas began experimenting, and she soon invented the illusion transmitter, for which she received a patent in 1980.”
