100 degree temps are hard on plants. Check your plants every day. If they are wilting or turning color. Push a moisture meter in the rootball and see if it has moisture before you water it. Some plants wilt when it is hot & do not need water. #plants #DFW #dfwgardentips

Landscapers add bubblers to deep water new trees until they are established. After 3 to 4 years most trees should not need it as long as it is in good health & growing. Where the hose connects to the pvc pipe, unscrew and screw in a plug. #dfwlandscapetips #gardening #trees

Wait until the temps are above freezing. Then remove the plastic off of your plants. You don’t want it to get to hot! Leave the sheets on the plants if they are wet or hang them up to dry. Cover zone 8B & up plants again tonight. #dfwweather #dfwgardentips #dfw

Hard freeze tonight! I see people covering their plants in pots but not the pot itself. I wrap pots with a towel then use weights & or duct tape. Then cover the plant separately. That way I can leave the towel on when I want to and just uncover the plant when needed. #dfwweather

When covering plants with cloth. Cover the cloth with plastic if precipitation Is in the forecast. Don’t place plastic directly on leaves during a freeze! Remove plastic once sun comes out and temps are above the safe temp for each plant. #dfwweather #dfwgardentips #Dfw freeze

When covering plants make sure the sheets, blankets or towels cover entire plant to the ground and pin it. That way it is holding the ground heat in. Our ground freeze line is 6” deep. So add 6”of mulch over root zone of sensitive plants. #dfwweather #dfwgardentips #dfwfreeze

It is time to fluff your mulch! Mulch can pack down & lesson the amount of water, nutrients & oxygen getting to the plant roots. Also pull mulch off of woody plant trunks to prevent rot. Be careful around the tender perennials emerging!#gardening #spring #DFWweather

If you haven’t. Cut your Liriope, aka Monkey Grass, and Mondo grass down to the height of the new growth emerging, before it mixes with the dead blades. Do this every Feb. or early March to give the grass a fresh look! #spring #dfwlandscapetips #gardening
