one format i desperately want to see more of, not only within the art world but far beyond it, is what S.M.S. (Shit Must Stop) did in 1968.
the idea was to cut out the traditional gallery system and bring art directly from artists to people, hence the name. every two months, subscribers received a box filled with artist-made multiples: prints, photographs, records, objects, games, texts, whatever the participating artists wanted to make. the box itself was the publication. over its six issues, 73 artists contributed, including Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, Yoko Ono, Roy Lichtenstein, Bruce Nauman, Christo, John Cage, Claes Oldenburg, and lots of others.
would be great to see more artists, brands, studios, and companies experiment with formats like this. what a way to connect and show a touch of humanity no newsletter could possibly reproduce.
p.s. S.M.S. was so hard and exhausting to produce that it lasted only one year before calling it quits
