A man was left with serious facial injuries after a group of men brutally attacked him during a petrol station carjacking attempt last month.

It's believed the 27-year-old man paid for petrol at the service station on Main Road East in St Albans around 11:15pm on April 26 when he was approached by a man who forced him to the ground.

The alleged attacker kicked the man in the head a number of times before two other males joined.

The group attempted to steal the car but were unsuccessful and ran from the scene. One has since been arrested and charged.

The victim was taken to hospital with facial injuries and a broken nose.

A kangaroo has been caught on camera going for a quick dip outside a well-known regional pub.

The roo was swimming in the water out the front of the @MetungHotel in East Gippsland.

Those having lunch were treated to the sighting, while the kangaroo cooled off.

This morning made for perfect conditions to view the amazing Aurora Australis from certain parts of Australia, including Victoria's Port Fairy.

The colourful sky was visible from about 5:15am onwards, giving early-rising locals the opportunity to see the once-in-a-lifetime show seen in this spectacular shot shared by @portfairygolf.

The lights were also visible from Tasmania near Hobart, and experts say tomorrow's conditions are ideal for another pre-dawn spectacle.
