Chappell Roan takes inspiration from Lola Young’s confession in the UK and recalls a personal experience about a relationship that ended in disappointment. The story eventually became the inspiration for one of the songs in her discography.
“Okay… I saw Lola Young’s ‘Confession’ and it reminded me of a little something… something that happened to me.
I was writing songs with someone, and we kind of started flirting with each other. It got to the point where it was like: ‘Are you flirting? Do you like this? Do you like me?’ And I was like: ‘Well… yes, obviously.’
We talked for three months, all online, because it was during the pandemic. We would just text each other, I would send pictures and stuff… and I really liked this person.
Then, I traveled alone to go on a date with them. We kissed, and I was floating. I was just thinking: ‘Wow…’
But then they completely disappeared. I didn’t hear anything from them for four days. Since they knew I was in Los Angeles and that I had gone there to see them, I texted them asking: ‘What’s going on? We had our date, I had so much fun.’
Then they replied: ‘I met someone else.’
The craziest part is that it happened during those exact four days when we weren’t talking. Maybe that’s possible… but then I found out they were also talking to another artist, which is normal.
But this person told that other artist, who was my friend, that they knew they should feel sad and care about me… but they just didn’t. They said they didn’t understand why I was so upset, because to them, it had only been something casual.
In the end, this whole story became a song.”
Hace 7 años, Rosalía lanzó “Milionària” — en pleno auge internacional decidió publicar una canción en catalán, que inmediatamente se convirtió en un éxito y en una de las canciones catalanas más relevantes de la historia.
