An impressive pair of engineering students from Mar Baselios College came with a project report (prepared over two years of research and field study) to clean up the Amayizhanjan Canal in Thiruvananthapuram. The Amayizhanjan Thodu is a long, major, heavily polluted canal flowing through the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city, emptying into the Akkulam Kayal. It flows near the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station, frequently faces severe waste management issues, and has been the site of extensive unsuccessful cleaning operations.

If the project proves implementable it will be a remarkable contribution towards the much-needed ecological revival of the city. I am delighted to see these young people devoting their time and abilities to tackling a problem that is older than they are!
