After 30 years in WA media and having played the game and now representing a WAFL club, I can honestly say the return of State of Origin feels different.

Origin football was born in Western Australia. And it feels right that its relaunch is here in Perth.

From the WA football community to the State Government, to the media... this has been embraced the way only this state can embrace its footy.

The build-up has been exceptional. The support has been genuine. And the outcome is lasting.

Congratulations to WA Football, the State Government and the AFL for ensuring $1.5 million from the success of Origin at Optus Stadium will go straight back into pathways programs here in WA.

That’s not just a game. That’s legacy.

I’ve been asked… how will Pro/Rel work in Oz? Imo first step is a home and away Australian Championship in winter which interconnects by Pro/Rel the existing NPL pyramid. Uniting, inclusive and aspirational to all clubs. My hunch A Liga will be begging to join, not vice versa
