One thing I’ll never get over in this country is how some folks - who tend to be white - can walk about in combat gear carrying long guns, perfectly legally, but non-white folks can be shot while the cops who shot them, and their supporters, argue if there was a gun *nearby* 🤔
"The real purpose here was to intensify control over how every aspect of elections are run in Georgia. So when there are close elections in the future, which they know there will be, they will have unprecedented power to challenge the election results..." @AriBerman
From passage of the #SB202 voter suppression bill targeted at Black and brown voters to the arrest of a Black legislator who was advocating for the voting rights of her constituents, today was a reminder of Georgia’s dark past. We must fight for the future of our democracy #gapol
@Fullfigurefactz @ambermruffin I just came across this, haven’t read the article yet, so I’m not sure how much crossover there is but I thought it’d be useful for those who. Don’t have access to wapo.
@Fullfigurefactz @ambermruffin I had no idea till now. It’s shocking to learn about, but not at all surprising. My husband teaches US history and he also didn’t know. This is going to inform his curriculum, so I’m grateful to have come across your comment.
easy things to do:
- if you hear anyone repeat the bullshit that these attacks weren't racist, tell them to shut the fuck up
- if someone proposes more policing is the answer, tell them to shut the fuck up
- if you see anyone humanize the shooter, tell them to shut the fuck up
don’t just check on your AAPI friends. read up on the Chinese Exclusion Act, US occupation of the Philippines, Japanese internment camps. listen to AAPI women when they talk about the racist, sexualized messages they’ve heard all their lives. we’re all tired and it’s just not new
@Telmusia I’m so glad this had become mainstream. It’s always a big debate in all the mommy groups. Everyone’s an anti-racist until you ask them to give up green eggs and ham.
