Do good things ever come from bad ones?
Because if not, last year was just a very expensive nervous breakdown 💥
One year after my company went bankrupt, here’s what happened:
I went deaf in one ear – stress finally picked a side 👂⚡
I lost 25 pounds of fat.
And all my money.
(Net worth now mostly “experience”) 📉
I took a bucket of psilocybin 🍄
Cheaper than therapy. Harder to ignore.
I became a Christian ⛪
Rock bottom has excellent conversion rates.
I was diagnosed autistic (PDA) 🧠
Turns out there was a manual.
Somewhere in the wreckage, I found a job I enjoy, good people, and a new sense of purpose 🙏
And I learned this:
When entrepreneurs fall apart, most people don’t lean in – they quietly step away.
A year earlier I was winning awards.
Then it stopped.
Not dramatically. Just… silence.
Failure strips everything back.
The ego. The identity.
The lie that endurance equals success.
Somehow, some of the best things in my life only happened because the worst thing did.
Sometimes good really does come from bad 💔
But first, everything has to break.

Yes, the headlines are shouting about lower fees now that developers can route payments through Stripe (or any processor they choose). 🎉 But that’s not even the biggest prize.
The real windfall: retention & re-activation 📈
When you own the billing rails, you own the relationship. Here’s why that matters:
1. Save the sale at the point of churn – Fire up ProsperStack, Churnkey, or your favorite retention platform to present dynamic offers inside the cancel flow.
2. Win back sleepers – Trigger automated win-back campaigns with Stripe’s card-on-file tools instead of handing users back to Apple’s walled garden.
Experiment like crazy – A/B test pricing, offers, and checkout design without waiting for App Store review.
3. See the whole customer journey – Combine in-app and web data for richer LTV and cohort insights.
At the moment, a huge amount of attention is rightly being paid to the newly announced tariffs and their significant impacts on markets and economies. But very little attention is being paid to the circumstances that caused them—and to the even bigger disruptions likely still ahead. Don’t get me wrong: these tariff announcements are important developments. But most people are overlooking the much larger forces that are driving just about everything, including the tariffs.
In my latest article, I discuss what I believe is far more important to keep in mind: we’re witnessing a classic breakdown of the major monetary, political, and geopolitical orders. This kind of breakdown happens only once in a lifetime—but it has happened many times in history, when similarly unsustainable conditions were in place.
