Behind closed doors for years. Now, out in the open.
Iβm officially documenting the process of building Reton in public.
Expect insights on fintech infrastructure, scaling, and startup building. π§΅π¦
An open letter to @DONJAZZY
Dear Sir,
My name is Gabriel Rotimi Mogaji known as Rotense, a software architect from Lagos. I've never met you, but I've followed how you work for years. You built Mavin by spotting talent early and giving it room to grow, and a whole generation of Nigerians owes their first break to that instinct. That is why I'm writing to you.
I'm the Co-founder & C.T.O of Reton, a Nigerian fintech solutions startup. Every day, Nigerians lose money to wrong transfers, failed payments and fraud, and most have nowhere to turn. Reton is a trust-first digital wallet built to change that, with real-time fraud checks and protection when money goes to the wrong place.
The proof, so you don't have to take my word:
β’ One of Africa's leading payment companies Interswitch featured me on their official YouTube channel, teaching developers how to integrate their payment gateway: https://t.co/NF9xwriejo, Last week their Developer Community also published my case study on building Reton's bill payments on Interswitch: https://t.co/i9hy62jkLd
β’ Reton is a registered Nigerian company, and the web app is largely developed.
β’ I'm a 2019 HubSpot International Challenge winner, with awards from Microsoft and the Python Software Foundation.
β’ A past client gave me a notarised guarantee vouching for my character and delivery. I can provide that too sir.
I and my team have done the building. What I haven't been able to do is open the doors.
What we need is β¦25,000,000 sir. This is not a funding round. It is the cost of opening a financial product properly, before the first real naira moves:
β’ Releasing the mobile app
β’ Servers and infrastructure
β’ Payment operations
β’ Rounding up the Compliance
β’ The first months of keeping it all running
In fintech, trust is the product. I would rather launch late and safe than early and risk people's money.
You'll get a line-by-line budget, regular reports, and proof of every naira spent. If direct support isn't possible, an introduction to someone who backs early Nigerian fintechs would mean just as much sir. As we grow, the money also means jobs for young Nigerians.
This isn't a plea for charity. It's a builder with approvals in hand asking for a door to be opened, so that Nigerians finally have a wallet that protects them. Ten minutes of your time, or one introduction, could change everything.
Thank you for reading, and for all you've done for Nigerian talent.
With sincere respect,
Gabriel Rotimi Mogaji

Dear Mr Eazi,
My name is Gabriel Rotimi Mogaji known as Rotense. I am a software architect from Lagos, and I am writing to you as one builder to another.
You have put your own money behind African companies, including the rails people use to move money. That is why I am bringing Reton to you (https://t.co/7UR8w8EfZl).
I founded it because ordinary Nigerians lose money to a wrong transfer or a scam and then have nowhere to turn. Reton is a wallet with a safety net. A payment can sit in escrow. A mistaken transfer can be recalled. Fraud checks run before a kobo settles. The rail underneath is not ours to reinvent. Interswitch is the payments partner. Reton is the wallet.
Here is where it stands. The product is built. The company is registered. Interswitch has approved Reton for payment access. People who have seen it say they want it. What is left is the cost of going live without announcing a launch and then stalling it.
We need β¦25 million to release the mobile app and cover the infrastructure that has to be running before the first real naira moves: release, servers, payment operations, compliance, and the first months of keeping it up. This is not a round. It is the cost of opening properly.
The work is already public:
β’ Interswitch featured me on their official YouTube channel, teaching developers how to integrate their payment gateway: https://t.co/NF9xwriejo. This week their developer community also published my case study on building Retonβs bill payments on Interswitch: https://t.co/i9hy62jkLd
β’ I am a 2019 HubSpot International Challenge winner, with awards from Microsoft and the Python Software Foundation.
β’ A past client put his trust in a notarised guarantee of my character and delivery. I am glad to share that, with the product and the books.
If you back it, every naira will be accounted for, and you will get regular updates. I can send a one-page breakdown before a kobo moves. As we grow, the money also means jobs for young Nigerian developers.
Ten minutes of your time would mean a great deal. Thank you for reading, and for building in public in a way other founders can follow.
With respect,
Gabriel Rotimi Mogaji
