For more than 30 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has built a regional empire dedicated to killing Israelis, exporting the revolution, and destroying or subduing Israel and any other country that does not agree to be part of its influence.
If not for Iran, October 7 would not have happened. The second Lebanon war would not have occurred. The country most supportive of Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Jihad is Iran. The amount of money, time, and blood dedicated by Iran to this fundamentalist project were immense.
The world was silent. At best, it tried to limit Iran's nuclear development. Now, hours ago, Iran has initiated a direct attack against Israel. What Iran is doing is not about the Arab- Israeli conflict. It has sought and seeks now to implement the vision laid out by the first Supreme Leader, Khomeini - to destroy American influence in the region, to annihilate Israel.
This should be a watershed moment. If the West fails to see what is threatened by Iran, Russia, and the rest, if it does not recognize that these developments are a manifestation of an attempt to destroy the liberal order itself, then we face grave consequences. It's not about the nuclear deal, it's not about Gaza, it's not about history. It's about fundamentalism, nationalism, and dictatorship.
I'm walking home in London, get off at Chalk Farm, and see a woman tearing down posters.
"I'm doing this to clean the street. Clean the shit."
Then, when I put my phone down, she turned to me and said: "Ah, look at your nose. I see your nose."
I cried the rest of the way home.
In my front office I have displayed the posters of the innocent Israelis kidnapped by Hamas.
They will stay up until every single person is safely returned home.
Let the hostages be freed immediately. Let’s think of the children, of all the children affected by this war, as well as in Ukraine and by other conflicts: this is how their future is being killed. Let us pray that there might be the strength to say, “enough”.
28 years ago, PM Yitzhak Rabin was assasinated for pushing for a solution. While lots of us in Israel are stuck in the numbing nostalgia of "what if", it's crucial to acknowledge two elements which are responsible--and still with us: Hamas and Netanyahu and the settler right >>
Na'ama participated in "Hands of Peace": a non-profit empowering American, Israeli and Palestinian youth to become agents of change. This is what #HamasTerrorrists did to her. No visits from the @RedCross#HamasislSIS
@materialist_jew And yet, the horrors of the past weeks were triggered by a pogrom of 1400 people and the kidnapping of over 230 men, women and children
Is anyone’s company acknowledging that yesterday was the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust? Is anyone’s DEI departments sending out messages of solidarity with the Jewish people?
8/ This will only allow Bibi to silence the protests and stay in power longer. This will only lead to destruction of human lives. I’m heartbroken. You should be too
If you reached a point in your lives where you rejoice at the sight of bodies being desecrated and news about women being raped and children kidnapped, you need to stop and take a good look in the mirror.
You align yourselves with forces that do not have the interests of their people in mind. You are supporting an organization that is being funded by Iran, which rules by the forces of religious fundamentalism.
7/ Ask the thousands of citizens who have been protesting its actions every day for over six months. But the answer is not kidnapping a child. Raping a young girl. Murdering parents. Grandparents. If that’s your answer, look in the mirror. Check your values.
6/ I’m sad to see so many academics and intellectuals, journals and institutions, supporting the acts of Hamas. The occupation must cease. There is no question about that. The Israeli government is racing toward fascism.
5/ You are advocating for the region to remain subjected to the whim of bad leadership. You advocate for no solution. You advocate for killing, devastation, pain. And also, let’s be clear, you participate in the centuries long tradition of rejoicing at dead Jews.
Do you think they’ll promote equality? Do you think they are interested in your progressive agenda? If you begin to justify senseless murder because “they had it coming” you are not promoting a revolution.
You do not align yourselves with the people of Gaza who are once again trapped, like pawns in the world’s worst chess game. You are progressives. Liberals. You rightfully condemn the occupation. How do you think those militants will respond to LGBTQ presence in public lives?
