SHOULD CALGARY SET UP A LOBBYIST REGISTRY?

I supported Councillor Clark's motion to explore a lobbyist registry for Calgary.

I moved an amendment to ensure the options that come back to Council will include HOW THE RULES WOULD ALSO APPLY TO ADMINISTRATION. Thank you to Councillor Johnston for seconding it. It passed 12-3.

Administration drafts the policy we vote on. Anyone lobbying us is also meeting with them. If the public wants real accountability, they should be able to see both.

To be clear, nothing is in place yet. This is a review, and options come back to Council later. When they do, I will not support a registry that applies only to elected officials and exempts Administration. And TRANSPARENCY SHOULDN'T COME WITH A MOUNTAIN OF PAPERWORK.

He didn’t like this and BEGGED Rachel Notley to change the rules to let him run deficits.

Council voted on whether to reduce density on many former single-family lots.

Today, a developer can build 4 units plus 4 basement suites on one lot — 8 households. The proposal before Council would have reduced that to 3 units plus 3 basement suites — 6 households.

I voted YES to reduce the density. But we failed by one vote.

Eight households on a single residential lot simply outpaces the available parking and puts additional pressure on neighbourhood streets. Six households is a more balanced approach that still adds housing while better respecting the character and livability of existing communities.

Most presenters are very passionate about their city and incredibly knowledgable… yet they get ignored!
