In Nigeria, anything can happen, and recent events have shown why the conditions and treatment of persons in detention must be taken seriously. Reports of 37 detainees dying in NSCDC custody are deeply disturbing and demand a transparent, independent investigation.

If 37 people could reportedly lose their lives while in detention, what guarantees the safety of one person?

BREAKING: Hajiya Asia El-Rufai, the second wife of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that she and Aishatou El-Rufai, his last wife, are being followed and placed under surveillance.

In a facebook post, Asia said their phones had been bugged and warned that their lives were in danger.

She added that the government should be held responsible if anything happens to them.

Senator Opeyemi said that once the Senate resumes, the first bill he wants to move is for a single six year term for Presidents and Governors.

I am not comfortable that this is coming just months before an election. As far as I am concerned, somebody is using Opeyemi's mouth to speak. Now that the APC appears confident that it has weakened the opposition, this looks like an attempt to secure an extra two years for Tinubu if it is allowed to pass.

And after six years, they will come up with something else. The man clearly does not seem to have any intention of leaving office for as long as he lives.

BREAKING: Mallam Nasir El-Rufai complained of swollen eyes in custody, but ICPC failed to provide him doctor, according to the cable news.

The cable reported that, Muyiwa Adekeye, media aide to Nasir el-Rufai, has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of denying the former governor of access to medical care despite complaints about a worsening eye condition.

I am disheartened about the reports of another kidnap of dozens of school children in Borno State. The news stated that terrorist attacked Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in the Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno. I will continue to reiterate that we are all failing collectively if such tragic incidents continue to go on. In my view, our only business as public servants should be solving the issues of insecurity and the epileptic power supply in Nigeria. This latest terrorist attack estimates that about 35 to 48 pupils were abducted. Innocent children seeking quality education in an already difficult society. Our thoughts are with their families and the people of Borno. This extreme levels of insecurity continues to be a shame in our face. May God continue to guide us to do the right thing for the people we serve.

Press Release: Our father, Mallam Nasir @elrufai, is still being held by the ICPC. Today, 15 May 2026, we witnessed two distinct yet equally serious attacks on his basic rights. First, his personal Doctor visited the ICPC at about 3pm to discuss the results of medical tests recently conducted on our father. Officials at the agency blocked the doctor from seeing him, claiming that written permission from the ICPC Chairman was required. This directly flouts a clear court order granting Mallam Nasir El‑Rufai unrestricted access to his doctors.

Second, his wife, Aunty Aichatou, brought his evening meal at around 7pm as she normally does. ICPC personnel turned her away, saying they had orders not to permit food deliveries after 6:30pm. This arbitrary rule is no less offensive than blocking his right to medical care.

These acts are an outright assault on the rule of law and a clear violation of our father's constitutional and human rights. No lawful detention justifies denying medical access or refusing basic family care based on an arbitrary curfew fixed by the ICPC. Shame on them as an institution.

We demand that all his constitutional rights be fully respected. We will no longer accept this pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol. The ICPC must abide by the very laws it claims to enforce.
