@DrFrancisYoung There’s a temporary exhibit at the Georgian National Museum of ethnographic work done on semi-Pagan areas of Georgia in the 70’s. I was prepared for the typical “oh this Christian festival has deep pagan roots”, but it was animal sacrifice and severed hands hanging from doorways.
@MichaelTG09 I’m pretty sure I recall St Alphonsus in his ‘Moral Theology’ saying that’s it’s not permissible for a Christian to knowingly sell an animal they know will be used in pagan sacrifice, as it’s co-operating with evil to an unacceptable degree.
@edhauschild@wattsandco There are some of our churches which would really fit it… I *think* the rules on veiling don’t say they *have* to be purple, so there’s an opening… I’d be very tempted if I was a PP with a windfall. Vestments are another matter…
@ALucieSmith@BruvverEccles@LukeCoppen I think an indicator is putting a neighbouring bishop in as Ap Admin, which didn’t happen. i suppose options would be back in with Southwark, or united with Portsmouth. Northampton unlikely as it’s a different province and East Anglia would be more natural to pair with it.
“Christmas Day should be called the Day of Fire, on which God came as a little child to cast the fire of love into our hearts.” St Alphonsus Liguori, Novena for Christmas.
Merry Christmas one and all!
A parish in New York City tripled their young adult converts.
If you go to their website it's obvious why it's working.
They have a few core weekly events targeted to young adults designed to help them encounter Jesus and grow in their faith.
The temptation is to copy and paste.
"Let's do wine and theology! Let's start street evangelization!"
Don't. Here’s why.
