Just because the best players on the planet do something doesn’t mean you even CAN. Some players are getting distracted in trying to achieve something that wouldn’t be good for them anyway...but bc a big leaguer may do it they think they should. BE GOOD AT WHAT YOU ARE GOOD AT
Stop trying to do too much...See the ball, be patient, don’t sway, don’t push to the ball, maintain posture, relax, don’t cast your hands, don’t dump the barrel, get separation, don’t hang back.....But then coaches tells us to KEEP IT SIMPLE.
First step to seeing if a player can make a mechanical adjustment.....JUST ASK THEM TO DO IT. #rocketscience If they can’t-then proceed and assess deeper. Many adjustments can be made by players quickly-they just have never done it that way before.
The next best answer to YES is NO. Answers come in different forms when working on your craft. Adjustments take time and not every adjustment is the right one
Don’t overthink everything players....You have so much information at your fingertips now in terms of training and performance. That’s great, but it can also hinder you. Take training in all forms 1 day at a time. Keep building and building and building.
Controlled and Athletic Movements...DON’T try be perfectly on time, take a great mechanical swing, hit the ball perfect and be perfectly balanced at the end. Control your movements into hitting position and have the ability to control/manipulate the barrel to and through contact
When training you can’t be on time, balanced, have a good bat path, totally under control and hit the ball perfect every time. Performance is imperfect.....success when everything isn’t perfect is actually what you see in many good players.
Posture and tilt on the inside pitch....think of working in straight lines w both hands and barrel. I like and dislike some different aspects of these swings. However, control and adjustability ALWAYS PLAY.
Let your body and mind SELF CORRECT.
And anyone who says DON’T GET FRUSTRATED when you are practicing or especially playing this game has completely forgotten what it’s like to play this game. It’s part of it....deal with it. Learn to channel that energy in the right direction.
Being too emotional usually takes away from your performance. Emotions are part of the game....do your best to MANAGE them. Start not caring about results as much...it helps.
Surround good players w other good players. Environment is so big for training. Had a great experience today w a couple college guys. I started the instruction and conversation and then got out of the way...
How to look for a CB...it’s a common conversation with players. The first thing you have to do is completely sell out. Have the conviction and ability to stare at a FB. You are looking breaking ball for a reason.
Work in straight lines with your shoulders, barrel and contact. We often to drill work and break up the plate into 3-4 sections. Watch the barrel stay tight and work through. Great example of being able to keep the barrel flatter to contact.
