My 5yo is obsessed with the Vlad the Drac audiobooks and this morning when I switched the light on in her room cried “the vampire’s eyes shall not suffer the light!” in a full on eldritch voice. Absolutely creased me up
@ediemmill Our one of these is S’ most beloved teddy and is called Nanny because another kid at nursery had a similar rabbit called Nanny 🤦♀️. Remains Nanny even though it transpired other rabbit was called Nonny (abortive attempt at saying bunny by the original toddler).
@fishplums Once you move to an automatic (which all cars will be in the not too distant future..) things get a lot less stressful. It’s amazing how much brain space gear changes take up especially in the early days
@dandouglas We live a street away from school and one of our neighbours drives up the road for the drop off every day! It must take longer to get them in the car and out again than it would to walk
Conversations the Olympics has prompted with our 5 year old:
- can men marry each other? 🌈
- is it okay to hit a horse? 😔
- who is the guy in yellow? 🏑
- can I be a girl BMXer? 💕🚴🏽♀️
Loving it #Paris2024
@HealthUntoDeath One of S also animal obsessed)’s fav facts: a narwhal’s horn is actually a giant tooth (when she told her teacher this fact, her teacher didn’t know what narwhal was, and then claimed they weren’t real 😬)
Waiting for someone to write their dissertation on the cultural influence of the Pass the Parcel episode of Bluey. We played Lucky’s Dad’s rules at my 5 y/o’s birthday a while back, it was indeed a disaster, but since then two of her mates have chosen LDR for their birthdays 😅.
@ediemmill IKR! Just booked ferries for next summer (allegedly the cheap option) at their early bird prices and it was still £700 just for travel to Brittany.
Related: we’re having a movie night tonight and the request is for a ‘Princess movie’. She’s keen to watch Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella or Snow White. Haven’t watched SW since it terrified me on a school trip aged five, is it as scary as I remember?
Excited to see this one ranking so highly as it’s my 5 yos all time fave Disney song and so I’ve had a LOT of repeat listens in which to consider my opinion of it. It really does bang

61. Trashin' the Camp (Tarzan)
Score: 432/500
Do you know how kickass a song has to be in order to rank this highly when it has only nonsense lyrics, and "lyrics" were one of my categories?
This number occurs at the perfect moment dramatically, bringing some levity to a movie that can lean towards the dark (understatement I suppose, Clayton dies after being hung to death on a vine, doesn't he?)
The jazzy, additive texture is really fun, as the animals use improvised objects in their surroundings to build a musical moment. It's harmonically simple, but there's a really nice moment where a major seventh is added to the predominant (B flat) chord, which is really tasty. It's really quite exquisitely produced as well, and is a treat to listen to with high-quality audio equipment.
It's the only song in Tarzan that's sung in entirety by cast members other than the off-screen Phil Collins, who I've decided is canonically "god" in the Tarzan universe.
