A speech at the UN today by one of my heroes, Iranian national football player Shiva Amini, brought tears to my eyes.
She spoke about how Iran’s regime threatens female athletes even with rape, simply for competing freely, playing against Israeli teams, or refusing compulsory hijab.
And now we see it again.
Five players from Iran’s women’s national team had to flee their hotel in Australia and seek police protection just for refusing to sing the regime’s anthem.
Imagine that.
Playing football can make you an enemy of the state.
Everyone needs to hear
@Shiva_amini_11 and be the voice of athletes who have been killed or those who were still in prison. In Iran.
@aliceTTimes Thank you for your courage and resilience in exposing this systemic abuse. I am sad to learn that you have been on the receiving end of such vitriol for your efforts. Chin up. You are an inspiration!
Britain let predators abuse thousands of girls—because they were poor, vulnerable, and "trouble." Race was part of it. But class, misogyny, and institutional cowardice were just as deadly. My column. #Rotherham#CaseyReport

So my legend of a cousin Lorcan just realised he was kind of important to the creation of @foofighters@FooFightersUK He saw a video by Dave Grohl talking about why he got back to work after a visit to Ireland. Lorcan was out hitchhiking wearing his nirvana top when Dave stopped
"To anyone thinking about joining future violent actions - you will be captured on camera, you will be arrested and you will end up in prison."
Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley's warning to those intent on committing further disorder on the streets of London.
@JamesCleverly Actually you immediately cut the police force by 10,000 when you came to power … then in the run up to the election, you promised to add 10,000 if elected. But no one was listening to you. I wonder why…
The Home Secretary here, deliberately trying to mislead you…
From 2010-18, his government cut 44,000 officers and staff from policing in England and Wales alone.
His government has broken everything that matters in this country.
@GNev2 The point Klopp is making, is that we have no idea how they arrived at this mistake. This is a task which a ten year old child could reasonably have managed. If we don’t know how they messed up, how can we ensure it doesn’t happen again ? Transparency is vital. Apology smology!
Enhorabuena @carlosalcaraz .
We're "sorry" we've given £72,000,000,000 of your money to our shareholders but that means we've now got none left so we think you should give us some more.
Let's call it another £10,000,000,000 as a bit of a down payment shall we?
Bloody hell!
@CartoonessToo@domdyer70 It seems blatantly obvious to most observers why these dangerous dogs were destroyed. They had previously attacked local residents.
@domdyer70 Nothing you have said, offers any evidence that the police have acted improperly. Should they wait until another child or adult is killed or seriously injured by said dangerous dogs? Thank God for these courageous #police officers who put their lives on the line to protect others
