@BobVanVoris
This is really stupid, and it’s not getting enough attention.
The Trump administration is pulling a working $368 million ocean monitoring system out of the water, equipment taxpayers already bought, built, and sank into the deep ocean.
And they are doing it right when the oceans are behaving in ways that alarm the scientists who study them.
Record-breaking temperatures.
A system of Atlantic currents that may be lurching toward collapse.
The response?
Yank out the instruments and walk away.
That is not budgeting. That is smashing the gauges while the engine is on fire and calling it efficiency.
For what? The Trump administration dressed it up as a “nimbler approach” and “smart lifecycle management,” which is fancy nonsense for “we shut it off and hoped nobody would ask why.” There is no return-on-investment analysis. They cannot show taxpayers save a dime, because the gear is already paid for and the science it produces protects real money and real lives.
The kicker: the same people killing the monitors want to mine the deep sea for minerals. So they are destroying the only tools that could measure what that mining does. That is not an accident.
That is the point. You cannot see the damage if you break the instruments first.

As Attorney General, I put criminals behind bars and took on large corporations exploiting consumers. As Governor, I helped make North Carolina the best state for business three of the past four years.
Together, we will continue to fight for a better North Carolina.
According to my termination letter from @washingtonpost the company cited these two Bluesky posts, and claimed that I disparaged white men, accused me of ‘gross misconduct’.
And that my posts “potentially endanger[ed] the physical safety of our staff”.
Here's the letter:
Some News:
After 11 years at the Washington Post, I was fired in the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk killing.
This week, I'm fighting back.
My case heads to arbitration on Thursday.

Let us learn to be rich in a different way: more attentive to relationships, more intent on valuing the common good, more attached to the local area, more grateful in welcoming and integrating those who come to live with us.
This is the first day in a world without CBS News Radio, which had been broadcasting since 1927.
Through eighteen presidential administrations, nine popes, five British monarchs, and numerous wars.
Nearly 100 years of journalism, gone like that.
Bari Weiss killed it.
As we continue to analyze the final report of the FEMA Review Council, we all agree that FEMA is in need of reform. I appreciate the focus on speed and flexibility and urge FEMA to prioritize swift and robust support for states as the final details are developed. We must take steps to keep people safe and strengthen our infrastructure for future storms while also being ready to step up quickly to support survivors when disaster strikes. When we work together across levels of government, we achieve the best results for people.
