@eddiegibbs Hard agree, you’ve put into words what I struggled to express, just to myself. As a LFC fan, I found him hysterical to watch on TUS & a tad more balanced on TF. I respect his work ethic, not so much his opinions😅 I suspect the light relief he supplied will disappear now

This visit broke my heart.

I visited an elderly man with a free food parcel he had requested. When I arrived, he asked, “Can you talk to me for five minutes, or do you have to go?”

I told him I could stay.

He spoke about his life, grieving his late wife and losing his only child to addiction. I stayed for an hour and listened.

As I left, he said, “Thank you for listening. It’s been a long time since anyone listened to me, Tasha.” I’m sure he meant me. Either way, he went back into his home smiling.

With his permission, I’ve passed his details to a befriending service.

I learnt a long time ago that a food bank is about more than food.

It’s about connection, being heard and being seen.

I hope I made his day.

I know he made mine. #foodbank

@shemaiahng @JennMGreenberg Agreed. Would add we have to keep comms channels open. Not easy when they’re monosyllabic & parents are NOT cool. I chose football, his passion, & learned weekly facts & figures to engage. He humoured me, but over time kept us talking & is now a genuine shared interest.
