In the anime, he falls into despair not just because of Rukia but because all of his friends Ganju, Renji, Chad; got slaughtered, and his Bankai was snapped in half. 😂😂

The anime added his friends getting cut down to emphasize the sheer weight of his defeat for drama, and you're hyper-focusing on Rukia just to prop up a personal bulshit headcanon
