In the @PioneerSeeds Agronomy Update, Pioneer Strategic Account Manager Cole Erhlin reported that a lot of fields will be sprayed over the next couple of weeks. "We want to make sure that we're using full labeled rates to extend residual control long enough to make it to canopy closure," said Ehrlin. "It's also never too early to plan for next year." With canola expanding its footprint in the region, it is important to keep an eye on rotation restrictions of different herbicides if canola will be in the rotation next year. "Canola specifically is pretty sensitive to different herbicide residuals such as sulfentrazone and Pursuit; it never hurts to double-check before spraying to ensure you can keep your rotation on track for next year.

In the latest @PioneerSeeds Agronomy Update, Strategic Account Manager Cole Ehrlin provides an update on corn conditions. "With the heat we've had combined with some nice moisture, the corn is going to be growing at a real rapid rate

In the Pioneer Agronomy Update, @PioneerSeeds Field Agronomist Kristie Sundeen reminds growers to apply their pre-emergence herbicides in soybeans. “Weeds such as waterhemp and kochia continue to challenge us in the post-herbicide applications, and it is essential that growers take the time to apply pre-emerge herbicides to help eliminate weeds when they are at their weakest.” In another tip, Sundeen said early-planted canola is emerging. “Check your fields. Flea beetles can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time.” https://t.co/CiFgVfZjyP
In the @PioneerSeeds Agronomy Update, Pioneer Field Agronomist Kristie Sundeen said this week’s weather will jump start the crop into summer. “Most of the corn has been planted, with some expected to finish this week. GDU accumulation has been slow with the cooler temperatures in May. Early planted corn is just starting to emerge. In northeast and north central North Dakota with a planting date of May 4th, GDUs range from 95 to 125.” https://t.co/tAtSNO4w6n
The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act was included as an amendment to the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s update to the National Highway Traffic Safety programs. It passed on a 48-one vote. This language is expected to be folded into the reauthorization of the Highway bill when it comes to the House floor. This is the best path forward for the AM Radio bill since it was first introduced three years ago. The proposal would require automakers to keep AM broadcast radio as standard equipment in all new passenger vehicles. The bill has the support of the @NAFB, @FarmBureau , @NFUDC and numerous commodity groups.
In the Pioneer Agronomy Update, @PioneerSeeds Field Agronomist Eric Lagge emphasizes the importance of stand establishment. "As you're taking stand counts, be sure to check planting depths and dig up any spots where there are skips or a plant that didn't emerge." The Pioneer Agronomy Update can be heard Tuesdays and Thursdays. https://t.co/pRduvxNPvf
Minnesota beef producers narrowly rejected a proposed 50-cent increase to the state beef checkoff. The vote was 380-to-377, with the increase denied by a three-vote margin. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture handled the statewide referendum. The current beef checkoff rate of $1 per head will not change. @MNagriculture
In the Pioneer Agronomy Update, @PioneerSeeds Field Agronomist Eric Lagge said significant planting progress has been made, even with the recent strong winds. "We finally started to see some measurable GDU's last week with most areas picking up 70-to-80." The freezing temps in the forecast are a concern, especially for crops like soybeans and canola, because the growing point is already above the soil surface." https://t.co/ycl6XpE5ZS
In the latest Pioneer Agronomy Report, @PioneerSeeds Field Agronomist Larry Lunder emphasizes the importance of weed control. "Later-than-average start times can sometimes cause the critical early-season weed control to be skipped as a time saver," said Lunder. With the resistance issues today, Lunder said it is more important than ever to utilize a pre-plant or pre-emerge product. https://t.co/6wVuLhjcgU
In today's @PioneerSeeds Agronomy Minute, Pioneer Field Agronomist Larry Lunder talks about the less-than ideal conditions for planting corn and soybeans this spring. "To date, we have not acquired enough GDUs to allow either corn and soybeans to emerge," said Lunder. Seed treatments will help protect the crop with the cold soils. https://t.co/kw1gvmbK38
In the latest Pioneer Agronomy Update, we hear from Pioneer Field Agronomist Kevin Sinner. "With the cool, even cold start to planting season, there should be given not just soil conditions, but even the specific corn hybrid you're going to be planting," reports Sinner. Hybrids with the highest stress emergence score are recommended. The Pioneer Agronomy Update is heard Tuesdays and Thursdays on RRFN. @PioneerSeeds https://t.co/kaS30rZ1Ce
Cold temperatures have been behind the slow start to the planting season. In this edition of the Pioneer Agronomy Minute, Pioneer Field Agronomist Kevin Sinner says soils have been slow to dry and warm up. Planting enthusiasm rose with warm temps over the weekend, especially along and south of Highway 200 in Minnesota. Sinner also provides an early look at GDUs. @PioneerSeeds https://t.co/gaBij320M3
