Congratulations to Rio Rancho, winner of the Class 5A Girls Team Title at the 2026 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico State Track and Field Championships @bcbsnm

2.Cleveland 56
3.Eldorado 50
High point individual: Morgan James, Cleveland 23
20-1.
Rio Rancho knocks off undefeated Cleveland 3-2 at RRHS, behind a great game on the mound (and at the plate) by Matthew Cook.
It should be a great final two weeks of the regular season. 🍿
Extremely difficult news out of Rio Rancho HS:
Athletic director Sal Gonzales has lost his battle with cancer. Sal died Monday afternoon.
Not unexpected, but still, a complete gut punch. Sal was a terrific guy, and this will cut deep through the RRHS community.
Rio Rancho beat Los Lunas 42-25 at the 2026 Nusenda Credit Union State Basketball Championships and advance to face the Volcano Vista/Farmington winner. Here are some of the highlights.
@nusendacu
One of the Big 12's most exciting freshman arms, @JackLafflam will pitch meaningful innings for @ArizonaBaseball in 2026.
The 6-foot-6, 189-pound righty touched 99 mph in a fall scrimmage versus Central Arizona College.

FINAL: Rio Rancho 2, Volcano Vista 0
Thanks to a second half spark, the Rams head back to the state final. First since 2020. They will face La Cueva on Saturday afternoon.
@RRObserver More to come.
FINAL
Class 5A girls soccer semifinals:
No. 4 Rio Rancho 2
No. 1 Volcano Vista 1
Rams into the 6pm Friday final at UNM against No. 2 Eldorado or No. 3 La Cueva.
Lafflam faced 7 CAC hitters and punched out 5.
He didn’t show an out pitch breaking ball in this outing but the raw materials are ++++
That is some serious arm talent!
My overall thoughts:
Name to write down:
Jack Lafflam
6’6 Freshman RHP
Super loose arm, easy gas
3 Ks in the first
FB was 94-98
And more 7s and 8s than 4s!!!

Here are this year’s 5A state champions from San Juan CC. That is Payton Black of Rio Rancho on the left, Annie Yost of Piedra Vista on the right. Fun note: they both have the same swing coach. That is Annie’s father, Tom.
Rio Rancho senior Payton Black wins medalist honors at the 2025 Nusenda Credit Union 5A Boys State Golf Championships presented by Realty One of New Mexico
A slo-mo look at the operation of Jack Lafflam (‘25, AZ) along with all 10 Ks from today’s outing. Absolutely dominated with the FB. SL has components to be an out pitch. Some of the highest upside in the class @PG_Draft
Quick look @ 4Ks from Jack Lafflam’s (‘25, AZ) CG outing from Thursday. Gave up 1H, 4BB and K’d 7. Popped a 98 in the 4th, 97(4) and basically held 93-95 throughout. Command/control fluctuated but he finished strong and found good feel for his SL (82-85, ~2800) later that had sharp lateral shape. Big time @PG_Draft follow. #Arizona commit. @PG_Scouting #PGHS @JackLafflam@Brophy_Baseball
