#FolkyFriday. Illustration by Michael Fitzgerald for Sheridan Le Fanu's story Carmilla. Le Fanu predated Dracula by about 25 years. Interesting psychological #ghoststories.
This is the skeleton of William Burke, who was hanged on this day in 1829. Along with his partner William Hare, he murdered at least 16 people to sell to anatomists for dissection. In 2022 I carried out conservation work on his remains
#FolkloreSunday - One of Henri Fuseli's paintings - The Debutante at the Tate...1807. These women might be high class prostitutes/courtesans. The woman sewing, appears tethered by a lead round her neck. Swiss-born, spend most of his life in the UK. #paintings#PainterOfTheNight
Gosh - trying out "X" - formerly known as twitter, and my post won't load! Regardless...if this works...this is the gravesite of Marie Contassot - murdered prostitute. #Denvehistory#ColoradoHistory#WildWest

#FolkloreSunday Queen Anee's Lace - At the center of the flowerhead, is a tiny cluster of dark red flowers, like someone pricked their finger while working lace. Queen Anne (1702-1714) lost 17 children of her children, and sewed to comfort herself.
Story recommendation! NO QUARTER by Kathleen O'Neal Gear. what sets this story apart is the POV of an enslaved woman during the Alamo.

On the way home from @Western_Writers Conference in Rapid City - stopped by this roadside point of interest. Must go back to this part of Nebraska again soon. #Nebraska#WildWest
#FolkloreThursday Will-O-the-Wisp and Snake by Hermann Hendrich - Romanticism style. The streaks of light, also called “ignis fatuus,” Latin for “foolish fire”. Not sure what the snake adds...but OK....#FolkloreThursday
