There is a deep comfort in knowing that nothing about us has ever surprised God. He knows the thoughts we hide, the sins we are ashamed of, the fears we struggle to explain, and the failures we would rather no one else knew. “There is no creature hidden from His sight” (Hebrews 4:13). Psalm 139 says He knows when we sit down and rise up and understands our thoughts from afar.

And yet, for those who are in Christ, being fully known by God does not end in rejection.

God did not set His love upon us because He discovered something worthy in us. “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). He knew the full truth about us before the cross. Christ did not die for an improved version of us, but for guilty sinners who had nothing with which to commend themselves to God.

That is what makes grace so astonishing. God does not love His people because He has overlooked their sin. He loves them in Christ, whose blood has actually dealt with their guilt. Therefore Paul can say, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

There is enormous freedom in that. We spend so much of life trying to manage how others see us, afraid that if they knew everything, they might walk away. But the One whose knowledge of us is perfect has already seen everything, and in Christ He has not turned His face away.

Our comfort is not that God knows only the best parts of us. It is that He knows us completely, has dealt honestly with our sin at the cross, and has bound His love to us in His Son. That is why nothing “will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39).

No man will know true joy while he is still secretly worshipping himself.

False ambition and self love do not sit quietly in the heart. They grow roots. They turn service into performance, obedience into reputation, ministry into display, and even religion into a mirror where man keeps looking for his own glory.

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves” (Philippians 2:3).

The world tells us to build our name, protect our image, chase our desire, and follow our heart. Scripture tells us something far more painful and far more freeing. We must die to ourselves.

“If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me” (Matthew 16:24).

This is why true peace is impossible where pride is protected. A heart ruled by selfish ambition will never rest, because it must always compare, always defend, always crave, always fear being forgotten.

“For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing” (James 3:16).

Christ does not merely trim the branches of our pride. He lays the axe at the root. He teaches us that life is not found in being seen, admired, praised, or exalted, but in belonging wholly to Him.

The happiest soul is not the soul that has gained the world. It is the soul that has been freed from the tyranny of self and brought low before Christ.

“Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you” (James 4:10).

True happiness consists only in the enjoyment of God.

Man was not made to find his deepest joy in created things. Comfort, success, human love, money, beauty, health, ministry, and earthly blessings may all have their place, but none of them can satisfy the soul that was made for God.

“In Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forever” (Psalm 16:11).

This is why the world is restless. It keeps drinking from broken cisterns and wondering why the thirst remains. Sin promises pleasure, but it cannot give peace. The creature cannot carry the weight that belongs only to the Creator.

“My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, to hew for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water” (Jeremiah 2:13).

The soul finds its true happiness only when it rests in God, rejoices in God, worships God, and knows God through Jesus Christ. He is not merely the giver of joy. He is our joy.

“Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth” (Psalm 73:25).

Everything else fades. God alone satisfies.
