Minnesota is on pace to hit a new record for the number of residents relying on food shelves. The state is on target to surpass 7 million food shelf visits in 2023, nearly double the number of visits in 2019. https://t.co/EPdODEBDw9
@SenGustafson@2harvest Thanks so much for your time today, it was great to meet you! Appreciate all your great questions & looking forward to working together in 2024!
Spent my morning chatting with neighbors at Sanctuary Church in North Minneapolis and handing out food to those in need. Thank you @2harvest for keeping the community fed. #EndHungerTogether
I’m proud to live in a state where organizations like Good in the ‘Hood and Sanctuary Covenant Church in North Minneapolis bring us together to provide resources for Minnesotans impacted by food insecurity.
Thank you to all the volunteers who show up to support Minnesotans.
“Many more Americans now are going hungry than at the peak of the pandemic aid. Some 24.6 million adults didn’t have enough to eat in early April versus 16.7 million the same month two years ago, the Census Bureau estimates.” #mnleg#startseeinghunger https://t.co/9CId1lIdbf
We already have work requirements. SNAP recipients who aren’t working are often struggling with mental health issues, experiencing homelessness, living with a disability, or raising children.
They deserve some help putting food on the table when times are tough.
Everyone can make an impact on hunger in Minnesota. We were proud to partner with @hfschoolsmn and @HungerSolutions to support school meals to make life a little bit easier for families in Minnesota.
Now -> on to @GovTimWalz! #EndHungerTogether#HungerFreeSchoolsMN
Glad to see @GovTimWalz sign this bill, I started my day visiting the Braham food shelf & hearing from & thanking volunteers. Food insecurity is a statewide issue & today I heard first hand how strong the need is.
Food costs are up. MN saw 2 million more food shelf visits in 2022 than in '21. Meanwhile emergency food assistance is ending. Could you make do with just $90/month for food? https://t.co/aDcKkt1ycM #SNAP#foodsecurity#hunger#FarmBill
BREAKING: #mnleg just passed a bill to provide emergency funding to food shelves to meet the growing need and address the record number of food shelf visits.
Thank you Sen. @ErinMayeQuade and @RepKeeler for championing this bill and supporting the work of food shelves in MN!
Today we joined the House Agriculture committee to advocate for increased funding for #FarmtoFoodShelf to provide locally sourced produce, protein and milk to MN's food shelves. Thanks to @ECHOFoodShelf, Today's Harvest, and @PahlsMarket for showing your support! #mnleg
It passed! So grateful that #mnleg is prioritizing ending childhood food insecurity and providing #freemealsforkids. If we can’t keep our kids fed, we can’t do much else. Now onto the Senate! @hfschoolsmn
Today, the Minnesota House will pass legislation to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students regardless of background. House File 5 will keep kids stomachs full, help students achieve in the classroom, and save families hundreds of dollars each year. #mnleg
