Gelje Sherpa, the man who was guiding a private client up Mt. Everest when he saw someone in distress near the summit. He went up, rolled him up in a sleeping mattress and gave him oxygen. He then strapped the man to his back and trekked 6 hours to safety
This is Nives Meroi, a 63-year-old Italian alpinist.
She has summited all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters (including Manaslu RP) without supplemental oxygen.
In 2023, at the age of 61, she summited 7,318m Kabru South via a new route (West Face). This weekend, she made the first ascent of the West Face of 7,412m Kabru (new route).
She climbed without bottled oxygen or fixed ropes.
In 2024, she was awarded the Piolet d'Or Special Mention for Female Mountaineering.
❗️❗️7,412m Kabru- New route❗️❗️
First ascent of the west face, by Peter Hamor, Nives Meroi and Romano Benet.
After nearly 2 weeks of bad weather, heavy snowfall, and strong winds, an exceptional achievement was made on Sunday, May 4th.
Nives Meroi , Romano Benet, and Peter Hamor successfully climbed a new route to the summit of Kabru (7,412 m) via the western face!
No one had previously attempted to reach this peak from the western, Nepali side - the face had remained untouched until now. The team has thus achieved a first ascent on this part of the massif.
All members of the expedition are now safely back in base camp.
Congratulations!

I wanted to share this article that my coworker sent me. Some of you may already know the history of Einstein‘s AAA and how it was treated, I found it pretty intriguing for the time.
