Reviewing 2021, major knowledge gains that I am forever grateful for. Thank you @timothysykes for the wonderful community you started with great students that are willing to also teach. Also, thank you for all the time spent making video lessons and other training materials!
Most traders lose because they demand the market feel predictable. But the market only rewards those who accept uncertainty — and still act with clarity.
It’s Sunday. A day most use to relax.
There are only two options:
Get off social media, turn off notifications, and do a true 2 hard hours of deep work.
Or learn to be content w where you are.
@kroyrunner89 Awesome to have you back, man! TT & TT2 are THE most important training materials I have consumed. Can’t thank you enough for the time you put into those, and if for some crazy reason you ever decide to put in that kind of time into a TT3, I’ll definitely grab that one too!
To answer a few of the most FAQ:
1. why did u take a 5 year break? Why did you come back?
I stepped away when I had a one year old and a second on the way! Wanted more family time and was burnt out and unfulfilled from the market despite being in the middle of a record year in 2020. So I took time to focus on what mattered and only came back sparingly to trade super hot sectors. I came back full time because the kids were in school/daycare full time and I was bored during the day not doing anything or working. I also wanted to challenge myself to see if I can take my trading to new heights
2. Any thoughts about the market then vs the 2025 market?
First I'll say I think there is WAY more opportunity. Truly an amazing market. However, I also think smallcaps are a lot trickier than they used to be and shorting them is terrifying, for me at least. There is a perceived danger (real or imagined) that makes it very hard for me to ever be comfortable in a trade when the float is low. Hard not to make emotional choices when you are uncomfortable in a trade. I refuse to swing any smallcap short overnight, and that is a big part of what I used to do. I will put in a lot of work to see if I can develop some other short strategies I'm confident in, or I will just move off of smallcap shorting altogether and focus on other areas.
3. Do you think a cause (of your struggles) is the changes in the markets behavior?
I don't want to blame the market because I did have an amazing first twelve weeks back. At the end of the day I'm the one pushing buttons and the results fall squarely on my shoulders. I fell into a super toxic mentality of chasing losses and that led me to letting PLENTY of 2-3R winners reverse fully and turn into losers because I was greedy and wanted more. I was trading off of what I wanted the chart to do vs. what I was actually seeing. If I simply locked in some winners my week would have looked way different lol. The other main mistake was overtrading, because again, chasing losses, I wanted to make them back FAST! That means greedy entries in low odds situations looking for high r/r homerun setups. So that is how a stretch like this becomes possible and why it is mostly my fault.
4. What are your actions that you do to redevelop your emotional control/discipline?
Historically maintaining a loss journal and holding myself accountable and forcing myself to trade small size until the errors are cleaned up has yielded the best results for me. It's one thing to think about your mistakes at the end of the day, it's another to have a tally sheet where you can see how horrible it really got.
And thank you all for the kind words and feedback on the original post! Great to be back in the trading community!
After a five year break, I came back to trading full time in May. Got off to a great start and ripped off 12 straight green weeks. Never really went through much frustration in that period, and knew that when a bad day or two came, that would be my real test to see how I handled it emotionally and responded. Well, it finally happened, and the results are in. I've got some work to do! I need to redevelop my emotional control/discipline or this comeback will be short lived!

The Only Math That Actually Matters in Trading – R/R vs. Win Rate
Most beginner traders are obsessed with “being right.” And even more obsessed with “being wrong”…
But being consistently profitable? That comes from understanding the math behind every trade.
Let’s break it down 👇
Let me show you why you can be wrong MORE than half the time and still make life-changing money trading.
This is about Risk/Reward vs. Win Rate – and why mastering this balance will completely rewire your brain as a trader.
💡 The formula is simple:
(Win Rate x Average Win) – (Loss Rate x Average Loss) = Profitability
Read that again.
It’s not about being right all the time.
It’s about making more when you’re right than you lose when you’re wrong.
Let’s say you win only 40% of your trades.
Most beginners would panic.
But if your R/R is 2:1 — meaning you make $200 when you win and lose $100 when you’re wrong — watch this:
(0.40 x $200) – (0.60 x $100) = $80 – $60 = +$20 per trade
You’re profitable.
Now reverse it.
You win 70% of the time — sounds great, right?
But your R/R is upside down — you risk $200 to make $100.
Let’s see:
(0.70 x $100) – (0.30 x $200) = $70 – $60 = +$10 per trade
Still profitable… but just barely. And with WAY more stress.
But here’s the kicker…
Most beginners take random setups with NO idea what their win rate or R/R is.
That’s gambling.
That’s chasing dopamine.
And that’s why most retail traders lose.
🧠 The transformation happens when you flip the goal.
Stop trying to be “right.”
Start trying to be structured.
A profitable system doesn’t care about your ego.
It only cares about your math.
Here’s a cheat sheet to understand breakeven points:
•1:1 R/R ➝ need 50% win rate to breakeven
•2:1 R/R ➝ breakeven at 33%
•3:1 ➝ breakeven at 25%
•4:1 ➝ breakeven at 20%
And so on.
This is your edge. Know it. Use it.
📈 As a trader, you’re just a casino.
Casinos don’t win every spin.
But they win over time because they have an edge and volume.
That’s what your R/R and win rate give you — your statistical edge.
Now imagine this:
You’re a new trader.
You log 100 trades.
You only win 35 times.
But each win is $300 and each loss is $100.
You just made:
(35 x $300) – (65 x $100) = $10,500 – $6,500 = $4,000
You “lost” more trades than you won…
But you won big overall.
🔥 That’s the difference between a hobbyist and a pro.
Pros focus on:
✅ Quality setups
✅ Defined risk
✅ Repeatable R/R
✅ Process, not outcome
This concept transformed my trading.
When I finally stopped chasing win rate and dialed in setups that gave me 4:1 or better R/R?
Everything changed.
I didn’t have to be perfect.
I just had to be disciplined.
If you’re a beginner, stop asking:
❌ “How can I win more trades?”
Start asking:
✅ “How can I structure my trades so when I win, I win big — and when I lose, it’s small and controlled?”
That shift — from chasing dopamine to managing math — is how you go from gambling to growing.
And it’s how I’ve mentored traders from $5K accounts to 6, 7, and even 8-figures in profits.
If this thread helped you, share it with a trader who needs to stop chasing perfection and start playing the long game.

July 4th hits different when you’ve earned your freedom.
Not through a flag.
Not through a parade.
Through discipline.
Trading gave me that.
Not just money—freedom.
Freedom to walk away from what no longer served me.
Freedom to be at my kid’s game on a Tuesday.
Freedom to choose how I spend my time.
But it came at a price.
Blown accounts.
Late nights.
Hard truths.
No shortcuts—just screens, systems, and self-control.
Trading didn’t just teach me how to win.
It taught me how to stop losing myself.
So if you’re in the trenches now, doubting if it’s worth it—
Let me say this:
Keep going.
Keep showing up.
Keep building the version of you that no longer needs permission.
Because freedom isn’t given.
It’s earned.
Happy Independence Day 🇺🇸

The only thing standing between you and your trading goals is you.
No one’s forcing you to take bad trades,
to chase,
or to give in to FOMO.
It’s you vs. you.
Your trading results will change significantly
if you invest the first 30-60 minutes of PM
into outlining your game plan and identifying key levels.
Absolute game changer
But easier said than done long term. People get lazy, fall off, then blow up because they lacked a plan
Success in trading isn’t about forecasting the future.
It’s about spotting subtle patterns,
managing risk,
and staying disciplined
when your emotions want to lead you astray.
Discipline isn’t when you say
you're going to do something.
It’s in the quiet moments—
when you choose patience over impulse
alone at your computer desk
That’s where true growth happens.
