We launched Postgres managed by ClickHouse in January and needed deep observability into the clusters we run. Existing extensions like pg_stat_statements give you aggregates. Useful, but you can't answer "what changed between 2pm and 3pm yesterday?" or get p99 latency trends over weeks. We wanted raw per-query events with unlimited retention and the full power of ClickHouse SQL for analysis.

Every statement Postgres executes (SELECTs, INSERTs, DDL, even queries that fail) gets captured as a fixed-size event with 45 fields: timing, buffer I/O, WAL stats, CPU, JIT, errors, and client context. Events stream to ClickHouse where you can query them like an APM.
